JOIN USSarita Devi scored a staggering nine goals as Manipur thrashed Tripura 24-0 in their Pool A match of the Hockey India Women’s Junior National championship (Division B) here on Wednesday.
Gitarani Devi slammed five, Rojita Devi nailed four, Bidyarani scored three, Chaoba Chanu a brace and Sonia Devi too entered the goalfest with a solo strike as Manipur tore apart a listless Tripura at the Chamundi Vihar grounds.
As the scoreline suggests, Manipur completely dominated the game from start to end. Despite leading 13-0 at halftime, they showed their ruthlessness, hardly taking the foot off the pedal to hand Tripura a solid pasting.
Gitarani kick-started the goalfest, slotting home as early as in the second. Within two minutes, it was 2-0 as Sarita converted from a penalty corner. The script was pretty much the same as Manipur kept scoring at will to start their campaign on a high.
