Nissan to sell vehicles directly in India

Nissan announced on Friday that its Indian subsidiary – Nissan Motor India Private Ltd (NMIPL) – has assumed full responsibility for the sales, marketing and distribution of all Nissan-branded vehicles and parts in India, with immediate effect from February 14, 2014. 

The company stated that its agreement with Hover Automotive India for exclusive sales, marketing and distribution of Nissan branded vehicles and parts in India has been terminated. Further details about the business structure will be announced in due course, it added.

In a statement, Nissan President, India Operations, Kenichiro Yomura said, “Nissan is now at a point of maturity in India where the time is right to establish our own marketing and distribution operations. Its priority will be to ensure a smooth transition from current operations. We remain committed to our customers and will continue to deliver high quality products and services.”

The comapny also said that it recorded 51.3 per cent growth for the period October 2013 to January 2014 period at 16,786 units compared to 11,095 units in the corresponding period last year. 

It has been expanding it sales volume in India since the launch of the new Terrano compact SUV in October 2013.

Terrano is Nissan’s fourth locally produced vehicle in India, and is built alongside the mid-sized Sunny sedan, compact hatchback Micra, sporty Micra Active and MPV Evalia at Nissan’s Oragadam facility near Chennai.
