Apathy of Mysore City Corporation has resulted in poor maintenance of 23 mobile, including three VIP toilets. The units which were sponsored, and purchased under JnNURM scheme have been dumped at Vani Vilas Water Work (VVWW) junkyard. Officials concerned are clueless about their property until contacted, claimed that the same has been “stored” and not “dumped”.
A year ago, Mysore City Corporation (UGD) received around 20 single mobile toilets by various sponsors like Mantri Developers, Bangalore, and CREDAI, Mysore. Three VIP ‘toilets on wheels’, were purchased under JnNURM scheme and used during special occasions, have been discarded without care at the VVWW dump yard, where scrap like rusted pipes have been dumped.
Rangaswamy, Executive Engineer, VVWW said that single mobile toilets were used often whenever there were school and police camps in the city. “The said toilets were donated to MCC, and they were appreciated by users during Dasara celebrations,” he said.
This apart, two dozen of plastic water tanks used during conventions and public gatherings too have been thrown at the open ground. Rangaswamy claimed that toilets and tanks were being used by event organisers, and that they were in good condition.“The toilets have stored at VVWW due to lack of space. They are however in good condition,” claimed P G Ramesh, Commissioner, MCC.
However, the toilets, especially the VIP units have hardly been used. Each VIP toilet, costing lakhs of rupees, has two rooms (ladies and gents), and runs on power.The toilets today wear a sorry look. Some of them are rusted, while parts of some toilets have been dismantled and thrown around haphazardly. Even the electric wires and switches have been removed.
Officials of JnNURM, the custodians of these VIP mobile toilets, are ironically unaware of their property. Kishore Kumar S V, Executive Engineer, JnNURM, said that he had assumed charged about three months ago, and that he had check the units before staking claim on them.
‘Don’t disrespect donors’
Nagakumar, immediate past president, CREDAI, Mysore, who was dejected to hear about the toilets, said that MCC by doing this, was disrespecting donors.
“In fact, MCC itself approached us and requested us to sponsor the toilets, during Dasara-2013. Members of CREDAI, Mysore center , and Mantri Developers pitched in and purchased these toilets from Hyderabad. It pains to hear that the units have been dumped. The units were brand new, and MCC should be making use of them, especially when there are big gatherings. The units should be maintained,” he added.
