I am not from any Bollywood family with fancy surnames: Sayali Bhagat
After winning a beauty contest in 2004, Sayali Bhagat debuted with ‘The Train’ opposite Emraan Hashmi. However now she is exploring something new at the movies. Sayali Bhagat gets chatty about her debut in a Marathi movie and much more in a candid chat with DC.
Your career took a back seat after your grand debut in ‘The Train’, how do you take this?
Honestly, I might not have a career of an A-list actress but as long as I am working, I am happy. I did 18 films in multiple languages, which kept me so busy. Apart from which I am always busy with my modelling assignments, hosting corporate events and stage performances, which I don’t, publicize much. I am not like someone who pays money for media net or do my PR. Apart from all this, I am fine doing television also.
As it has been a trend, you think all beauty pageants end up working in Bollywood?
I do believe in it. I think they definitely give a certain platform and an opportunity for the first break but eventually its all about your talent and networking. I am not from any Bollywood family with fancy surnames but I am very realistic. Mugdha Godse and Tanushree Dutta were from my batch and we all had to work hard post our beauty pageant.
Being a maharashtrian, why so much of a delay to explore Marathi cinema?
I always had respect for Marathi cinema but I was never approached for the kind of role I wanted to do in Marathi cinema. The subject of ‘Yali’ is based on terrorism and I play an ATS officer. I trained myself to do action scenes for this film that were shot in Kutch. I am glad that my regional graph is very nice.
Are you disappointed about how your career has shaped so far?
I am not disappointed. I never plan my film career, it’s very unpredictable. It’s not in my control. My career has taken its own route but I am happy that I am creatively busy so far.
How is your married life treating you?
I am very happy to get married. It’s an arrange marriage (Navneet Pratap Singh Yadav) and the journey has been adventurous so far. I feel settled and secured since my husband is very supportive. We have accepted each other the way we are.
If you were offered a reality show, would you have done it?
I do get a lot of reality show offers but I have so much work that keeps me busy. I was offered Jhalak Dikhlaa Jaa but I don’t want to get into the details.
