An ode to our beauties

Pooja Devariya and make-up artist jo’s video shows the best of south Indian heroine’s looks

They have been delighting the Web constantly with their hilarious sketches. And now, the YouTube channel Enna Da Rascalas is back — with a tribute to some of the beautiful faces to have graced film screens over the last century.

Teaming up with popular Singapore-based make-up artist SuperPrincess Jo, actress and theatre artist from Chennai Pooja Devariya puts across her ravishing best to present 100 years of south Indian heroines! “Since I’m the only girl in the group, the guys keep asking me to come up with a script of my own. This idea came from the ‘100 years of beauty/ fashion’ clip that went viral recently — and we wanted to give a local twist to it. We connected with Jo at a YouTube Virtual Jam recently, and got cracking within a few days,” explains Pooja.

And then, the process began — shortlisting 10 heroines from 30, whose looks they’d impersonate in the video — but how do you choose? “It was hell! Obviously all of us have many personal favourites; for instance, I really wanted Simran and Jothika to be a part of it. But in the end, we had to focus on the essence of different areas and pick those who represented it best. The idea was to show the classic evolution of the south Indian heroine in terms of fashion and accessories,” Pooja says.

She even consulted her mom and her friends to perfect the looks and poses of yesteryear actresses. “We wanted to cover all languages too. It was shot in just a day and went great — but my biggest challenge was to sit idle while all the hours of make-up happened!”

And indeed — the evergreen looks of Padmini, Sowcar Janaki, T.R. Rajakumari, Vanisri, Kalpana, Jayalalitha, Suhasini, Amala, Shobana, and Trisha are brought to life brilliantly.

“My personal favourite is Amma’s look!,” says Pooja.
