Flare it up with culottes

Expert tips on how to carry off culottes at work and at parties

If you love wearing capris then perhaps its time to put them where they belong — back in your closet. These days it’s all about the flair and the latest trend that is taking the fashion world by storm are culottes.

Whether it is model Gigi Hadid, Kendall Jenner and closer home Pernia Qureshi and even Deepika Padukone in Piku... the look has caught up. And the best part is that culottes can be worn when you’re partying or at work.

“Culottes are easier to style. You can wear them when you’re out pubbing or even to office. It all depends on how you style it,” says celebrity and fashion stylist Indrakshi Pattanaik.

For a more formal look, Indrakshi advises, “You can pair the pants with a blazer, also opting for solid colours or striped pants will make the look more formal. For the shirt, a simple silk blouse will go with the look. Pair them up with stilettos and you’re good to go to work.”

To add to the formal look, stylists suggest that a blazer or a bolero can complete the look. Stylist Nitasha Gaurav says, “Opt for cropped blazers or a bolero. They can be in solid colours or even in stripes.”

Culottes are all about comfort and stylists say that you don’t have to put in too much effort to dress up. “For a more casual look opt for Indian prints and even florals. You can pair them up with racer backs or a ganji with a scarf. Another alternate look could be a long tunic with culottes of a solid colour,” says Nitasha.

One has plenty of options when it comes to pairing footwear with culottes. “If you’re wearing a floral printed culotte then opt for sandals, it adds to the bohemian look. You can also wear ballerinas, but on solid colours,” advises Indrakshi, adding, “Sneakers are another way to lift the look. They are sporty, fun and let’s not forget, comfortable.”
