Movie review 'Ganapa': One more rowdy in love

Ganapa is definitely a change for those who love to see violence coming from living-breathing people
Cast: Santosh, Priyanka
Director: Prabhu Srinivas
Rating: 3 stars
If Love, Sex aur Dhoka is a success mantra by default for many filmmakers, then the underworld and subjects related to rowdism (with a spin of love to the tale), is another formula for attracting the masses.
Despite the seemingly endless bloodshed it shows, for which it is certified as an A-rated film, Ganapa strangely grips its audience and proves to be an engaging experience for little more than two hours. Even though the film has nothing new to offer, the director seems to have been greatly influenced by directors who rose to fame by showcasing the reality behind the darker side of the underworld which tries to thrive by evading the law.
If a gang challenging the law and the authority of the opposite gang is a cliché, a love interest makes the plot all the more obvious, with very little to expect in the climax.
That said, Ganapa is definitely a change for those who love to see violence coming from living-breathing people. An honest student of the genre, the director has made sure that the story progresses quickly and does not hang. The crisp editing renders the narration clean, amidst the killing spree. If a known and popular actor had depicted the lead role, it would have turned into an instant flop, but an actor with no audience expectation to deliver a hit, adds on to the positives of the movie, even with an average performance.
The movie shows how a normal and most importantly, an innocent guy, ends up being rowdy. His loyalty is checked, double checked, and cross checked! Yes, he will also fall in love. While Ganapa is a good rowdy movie, such films have been done to death and the directors now need to think out of the box, as even onscreen rowdies need a break. This time, a very long break!
