Riding high on success and confidence

Mahima admits of being serious about her acting career, from a very young age

Actress Mahima, who made her Kollywood debut in Samuthirakani’s Saatai, is a busy star now, as her hands are full with the likes of Kitna and Mellisai, as well as another film with Attakathi Dinesh.
Describing Kitna as a dream come true, Mahima admits that she didn’t expect Samuthirakani to call her up again she essays a dual role in the project, with Samuthirakani playing her dad! But she’s more excited about being paired opposite Dinesh, terming the film a ‘village subject’.

“I essay a bold and mature role. We shot extensively in Thiruvannamalai and I play a girl who’s interested in music and is part of a band. It’s a full-on romantic film,” she says. When asked about Mellisai, in which Vijay Sethupathi plays the lead, she remains tight-lipped, “I have been asked not to talk about my role. I thoroughly enjoyed acting with him though we don’t have many scenes together. It is a colourful, lively college movie and he’s very friendly,” she says and adds, “I am looking forward to the movie’s release and it is one movie that I’ll cherish in my heart forever.”

Mahima adds that she has always been serious about her acting career, from a very young age. “I have always wanted to be an actress In fact, I want to do roles like Shobana and Oorvashi did! I would love to do quality films in Tollywood, Mollywood and Kollywood. So far, in all the movies, I have played de-glam roles. If the script demands, I can show a bit of skin — but I definitely can’t do item songs. I would always prefer doing substantial roles that audiences remember me for,” she says.

A diehard fan of Rajinikanth and Ajith, Mahima says she doesn’t even mind doing a small role if she’s part of their projects but is quite choosy otherwise. “As of now, I have a Telugu project in my kitty that has Puri Jagannath’s brother Sairam Shankar in the lead. Two more films are under discussion and I will be able to reveal the projects once I sign them,” she signs off.
