Jyothika did not take any remuneration for 36 Vayadhinile: Suriya

Says actor at the success meet of the film, which has marked actress comeback

At the gala party to celebrate Jyothika’s comeback film 36 Vayadhinile, Suriya revealed that Jo did not take any remuneration for the movie. Rather, being the producer, he paid her an A-lister salary only after it was declared as blockbuster. “It has been a blissful journey. Last October Rosshan Andrrews met us, things happened smoothly, like in a dream. Watching her on screen after eight years, I felt Jo was glowing and her screen presence was amazing.

People tell me that they can smell the fragrance of jasmine in theaters, because of the female audiences thronging to the film. I express my thanks for the red carpet welcome given to Jo.” He adds with a smile, “After putting the kids to sleep, like a Plus-2 student, Jyothika used to mug her lines late at night. Sometimes, I helped her in pronunciation.” Replying to a query as how his father, actor Sivakumar, felt after watching 36 Vayadhinile, he said, ‘For a few minutes he was silent, then he told me ‘Jyothika is definitely a better actor than you’.”

When someone pointed out the irony of the film depicting women empowerment, but Jo tweeting her thanks using Suriya’s Twitter account, the Singam star laughed and said, “I don’t tell her what to do. Basically, Jo is not tech-savvy. But she is slowly learning and will be on Twitter soon.” Ask him if both of them would someday appear on screen as a couple, he said, “We are hearing scripts. Hopefully, an announcement will be made next year.”

Jyothika, for her part, said, “I have been getting many offers after the success of this film. I want to do meaningful cinema. And, Suriya has been the driving force behind my comeback.”Reacting to a query about why India, with its vast population, had so far only one woman Prime Minister and one President, Jo replied, “It is because of their husbands only. When men dream of getting a car, a house, they should also plan to fulfill their spouses’ dreams. They should motivate their wives to reach greater heights.”
