An experience I truly treasure: Vishal Dadlani

Singer-composer is back as a judge on Indian Idol Junior, season two

Vishal Dadlani is back as a judge on Indian Idol Junior, season two. The singer-composer admits that judging the children this year will be a tough task as they are a powerhouse of talent.“These children are untouched by commerciality. It reminds us of why we are musicians today. They are so ridiculously talented that it’s going to be difficult judging them,” Vishal says.

This is not the first time Vishal is judging young talent. How does he feel about the idea? “It’s an experience I truly treasure. I’m really excited to be a part of it. We have been having the best possible time on the sets. The kids are phenomenal singers. These children have a spectacular vocal ability. It’s an honour to get to spend time with them. Honestly, these kids are going to leave a mark behind in the world of music,” he says.

Is there any kind of censorship with regard to choice of songs, given that the participants are so young? “Yes, definitely. Even in the last season, we had kept a vigil on the kind of words children use in their songs. I don’t have anything against party songs or folk music that has a tradition of sensuality in its songs. Even film songs, since ages, have had an element of sensuality in them. But when children sing such songs, it doesn’t look good at all. As a judge, it’s very important for me to keep them away from such songs,” Vishal says.
