Masaan heads to Cannes Film Festival

Richa Chadda is overwhelmed to be at the Cannes Film Festival
Mumbai: Richa Chadda is overwhelmed to be at the Cannes Film Festival after her debut in 2012 for Gangs of Wasseypur. Her movie, Masaan, has been selected in the ‘Un Certain Regard’ section. “The movie has been set in Varanasi. It talks about my relationship with my father. But more than that, it talks about what people from the small town want to escape from — reality, the socio-cultural shackles of a small town, etc. It is an unusual film. This not commercial or mainstream cinema, I would call it a good cinema. So any kind of recognition is good,” she says adding, “It feels great to be going to Cannes again.”
A lot of practice goes into preparing for a red carpet appearance, but Richa says that she is more bothered about the movie winning at the film festival, than her appearance. “I have been meeting my stylist but haven’t finalised on anything yet...,” she says adding, “I am not taking friends and family along. We are just going to showcase our film.”
Other Bollywood celebrities such as Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Sonam Kapoor and Katrina Kaif would also be present. Does she plan to meet anybody in specific? “I don’t know who all are coming. Let’s see who all I run into. I’m there on May 18 and 19. Also, there are different carpets, the red carpet for the sponsors is different.”
Richa has already made her wishlist on what she would be doing at Cannes. “I have planned to travel to Paris for a two-day trip. It’s a lovely party place.” Before concluding, Richa says, “Everyone says I am the poster girl of the movie, but it is the team effort that paid off. It is also director Neeraj Ghaywan’s debut movie, and it is always a proud moment when your first film gets screened at Cannes.”
