Anas and I had a misunderstanding which we then sorted out: Deepika Singh

Mumbai: Deepika Singh who plays Sandhya in ‘Diya Aur Baati Hum’, was in the news recently for slapping co-star Anas Rashid. We caught up with the actress who cleared the air about their brewing rivalry and spoke about the show’s six year leap.

Are you cordial with Anas now?

Anas and I are professional’s in the end of day. We had a misunderstanding which we then sorted out as we wouldn't want our personal differences to reflect onscreen. Whatever we are today, we give full credit to our character of Sandhya and Sooraj for all the love and affection from our audience so I would like to tell our fans that we have resolved our differences.

Were you apprehensive about playing a mother?

I am very young to play a mother I feel but the story demanded a leap and I didn't want to upset all the people working so hard on the show. My love and attachment to the show and the people associated with this show was greater than my apprehension as DABH has given me name, recognition and love from the audience. Plus for an actor, it is challenging to play a working mother as you already have work and home responsibilities and to top it all I will have an additional responsibility of a kid now.

Post leap will focus shift from IPS track?

The show is going for a 6 year long leap where in a lot of dynamics of the family has changed. Sandhya has become a SP (officer) and is working away from home. She is a weekend mother because of which she is not able to give enough time to her son. On the other hand Sooraj is taking care of their child and has a very strong bond with him.

What preparations have you done to play a mother?

It’s a very challenging role to play a mother because you need to bring out emotions that only a mother can feel and give. My Mother and mother-in-law are the people who are training me for this role. My mother is terribly happy because earlier I used to call her thrice in a month but thanks to this track, I call her so often to understand how she used to deal with a naughty kid like me and how she used to manage me and my 3 siblings along with work as she was too a working mother. Bhabho and Kanika are also training me on the sets. As Kanika is actually pregnant, I am learning a lot from her body language.
