I would love to direct all the Bachchans together: R Balki

Director talks about the future of films and his hunt for a script for Jaya Bachchan

Having started his creative career in the ad world, director and producer R. Balki says that while making films is a tedious process, there’s not much difference between the two.“I do not find much of a difference while directing an ad or a film. In both cases you are telling a story. I enjoy making both. However, filmmaking is a laborious job.” About the future of filmmaking he says, “Writers will be the most important factor; they are the future.

“We will also have to re-assess the economics of filmmaking. It is silly to make a '100-cr film if we see no profit. No producer will like to make a film merely to allow a filmmaker to serve his creative satisfaction if the content is not good.”Balki adds that he is keen to work with Jaya Bachchan. “I must get a good script for that,” he says, adding with a smile, “If I get a great script then I can take all the Bachchans together in one film.”

Talking about his wife and filmmaker Gauri, Balki says, “We do not interfere in each other’s professions. I would not know what kind of script Gauri has comedy, romantic etc. I know that she is planning her next film soon. However, this time I am not going to produce her film. Cost control is not my trip,” he says.
