Movie review 'Mythri': A power-lal experience

It is definitely a must watch of this season
Director: B.M Giriraj
Cast: Mohanlal, Puneeth Rajkumar, Mr Aditya, Jagadeesh, Atul Kulkarni, Ravi Kale
Rating: 4.5 stars
After several senseless films for the year so far - few qualifying as entertainers and some as box office hits and the rest being worst, Mythri is just brilliant and easily classifies as one of the best Sandalwood movies in the recent times. After an outstanding offbeat successful debut as a director in Jatta, Giriraj came up with Advaitha which was shockingly an intolerable movie. With Mythri, he
has bounced back big time and so does Power Star Puneeth Rajkumar with an impeccable performance supported by child artist Mr Aditya, Jagadeesh and the perfectionist Mohanlal.

Despite shades of the Academy award-winning Slum Dog Millionaire, and the plot revolving around an underprivileged boy residing in a slum, Mythri stands altogether on a different footage. Giriraj has penned the script with utmost care while balancing the real image of power star and the storyline while depicting it through sheer artistic excellence.

For a change, Mythri has none of the so called ‘must-haves’ – like heroism, fights, lavish sets, glamour, masala and more importantly item songs for a box office. Unlike the rumours, it is the Mollywood star Mohanlal who appears in a cameo role in the later second half portraying the role of a DRDO scientist settled in Bengaluru which also justifies his action to lend his own voice for the character.

Meanwhile Puneeth Rajkumar playing himself minus his usual onscreen avatar is a treat to watch. The actual stars are the child artists who make it look natural and effortless, both Mr Aditya and Jagadeesh deserve applause and so does Atul Kulkarni as the jail warden and Ravi Kale shining yet again in a negative role. Insofar as music scored by maestro Ilayaraja, they are apt along with powerful lyrics. All the credit goes to Giriraj for making it happen and it is definitely a must watch of this season.
