Movie review 'Govindudu Andari Vaadele': Charan surprises with his performance

The film is more on the family drama and music is the biggest minus

Director: Krishna Vamsi

Cast: Ram Charan, Kajal Aggarwal, Prakash Raj, Kota Srinivasa Rao, Rao Ramesh and Srikanth

Rating: 3 stars

Director Krishna Vamsi is looking for a good break from the last few years and this time, he joins hands with a big actor like Ram Charan for ‘Govindudu Andari Vaadele’. Kajal Aggarwal plays the female lead, while Prakash Raj plays an important character.

The story goes like this- Abhiram (Charan) is the son of NRI Doctor (Rahman), who lives in London. One day he comes to know that his father has a big family roots back in India and wanted to find out the family. He landed in India, travels to the village and meet the family, but didn’t reveal his original identity. Balaraju (Prakash Raj) is the head of the family and the village stays in a big house along with his son, daughters and grandchildren. Bangari (Srikanth) is Balaraju’s younger son and he is quite opposite to his father. Abhiram entered into the family and mingled with everybody and fall in love with Satya (Kajal Agarwal), granddaughter of Balaraju. The crux of the story is how Abhiram wins the heart of all the family members and united the family.

Director Krishna Vamsi is known for coming up with good emotional drama especially in a family backdrop. Here in this film he didn’t come up with a good story as the film mostly inspired with the 1991 classic ‘Seetharamayyagari Manavaralu’. Though this is not Krishna Vamsi’s best till now, but he manages to come up with some good emotional drama. Most of the scenes resemblances to some of his old films and the only change are the actors. Moreover most of the scenes are predictable. Though its good to see that the director gave importance to the Telugu culture and nativity and it should be appreciated. Paruchuri Brothers are experienced campaigners and they come up with good dialogues.

When it comes to the performance, it is Charan, who surprises all with his good performance. He completely shed his star image for this Abhiram character and come up with a subtle performance. Till now most of his films are action based and this film makes him to showcase his talent as a performer. Prakash Raj plays a bigger role in this film as Charan’s grandfather and it’s a cakewalk for him once again. Jayasudha as grandmother excels once again. Above all Kota Srinivasa Rao is one of the finest actors we have gave a stunning performance. Though he overshadowed in many films, but his performance is highlight. Rao Ramesh is another good actor who played the bad guy along with Kota. Srikanth’s character is only limited and he justifies it. Kamalinee Mukherjee also played a cameo. Kajal Aggarwal is beautiful and glamorous.

The big minus for the films is music. The film is more on the family drama music is not up to the mark. The chemistry between Ram Charan and Kajal has come up nicely. The love track between Srikanth and Kamalinee Mukherjee is not jelled. The climax could be in a better way not in a hurried manner.

Finally, this is an old story with old format, but don’t go with high expectations. You can watch it once for Charan’s performance and it is a clean family drama. This is a holiday time and it may work out for this film.
