Movie review 'Tirupathi Express': It's a comedy express

Minus few ‘stops,’ this Tirupathi Express has a lot for the audience to laugh at

Director: P. Kumar

Cast: Sumanth Shailendra, Kriti Kharbanda, Ashok, Chikkanna, Pratap.

Rating: ***1/2

After the success of Dilwala, a lot was ‘riding’ on Tirupathi Express for Sumanth Shailendra, who makes a comeback in his father’s home production, which turns out to be an entertaining journey for the audience. A remake of 2013 Telugu hit Venkatadri Express, the director P. Kumar has done a clean job of imitating the original while retaining the humour at its best. However, the fag end of the movie could have been trimmed a bit for ‘that’ perfect happy journey tag.

Minus few ‘stops,’ this Tirupathi Express has a lot for the audience to laugh to their heart's content when they hop on to it for about 125 minutes of journey. Apart from the humour, Kriti Kharbanda who has struck hat-trick opportunities after her Googly success, makes another ‘beautiful’ comeback while filling the much needed glamour quotient.

The story is about a family, headed by a strict retired school headmaster portrayed by veteran actor Ashok, who has his own rules framed for his family members for a disciplined life. But the rule comes with a condition that anyone in the family who breaks them for 100 times are thrown out of the house.

Needless to say that the younger son, Sumanth faces wrath with 99 mistakes already against his account! This is when the family takes on a train journey to Tirupati for the wedding of Sumanth’s elder brother but the journey cuts short for the protagonist, as he is secretly sent by his mother to bring back the mangala sutra which she had forgotten to pack and the real fun starts. Chikkanna and Kuri Prathap are the humour tit bits throughout the journey.

Amidst the escapades, Sumanth encounters Kriti and few other characters laced completely with humour. Will, he get back on time before its too late or does he strike the 100th mistake? Well, hop on to this comedy express.
