Movie Review 'Megha: Unconventional story telling pattern is bit confusing

Megha with relatively less known actors and a debutant director Karthik Rishi was in news even before its release, courtesy Maestro Ilayaraja’s superb songs. However, Karthik has churned out a decent thriller with Ashwin Kakamanu who did the second lead in Idharkkuthaan Aasaipattaya Balakumara and new girl Srushti playing the lead roles. Undoubtedly, Raja once again rules the roost.
Mugil (Ashwin), a photographer and struggling job seeker for his qualifications in Forensic Science and Megha (Srushti) meet on a rainy day and it was love at first sight for Mugil. They meet once again when Mugil was entrusted with the job of taking pictures for Megha’s brother’s wedding. An incident at the wedding makes Megha develop a liking for Mugil. We are told that Megha’s dad (Jayaprakash) is dead against love marriage. Meanwhile, Mugil gets a job as forensic officer, thanks to the soon-to-be Commissioner Raghavan (Vijayakumar) who wants to help him since Mugil’s father was a loyal driver to him.
However, a twist in the story takes place when Raghavan dies which was hush-hushed as a suicide. Unable to digest, Ashwin puts his forensic skills to use and finds out that Raghavan has been murdered. Even before he could present his evidences to higher authorities, Megha is kidnapped by a mysterious gang who are after the proof. What follows is a sequence of events which is narrated in back and forth fashion and most part in a gripping manner.
Ashwin has given a convincing performance be it in intense romance, emotional outbursts and action scenes. Srushti looks pretty and has done a good job. Angana Roy is just about adequate. All others like Y.Gee.Mahendra, Vijayakumar, Naren, Jayaprakash are aptly cast. Ilayaraja’s evergreen number Puttham Pudhu Kalai has been remixed and visualized beautifully. Raja’s exceptional rerecording is a major plus to the movie. Gurudev’s cinematography captures the rain sequences (which are aplenty in the film) delightfully. On the flip side, the moment you culprit’s identity is revealed, you lose interest. Also the unconventional story telling pattern is bit confusing.
