Special Attraction:14-ft gold and silver garland for Ganpati this year

Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated as the birthday of lord Ganesh

Mumbai: The special attraction for Ganesh Chaturthi this year will be at the GSB mandal at King’s Circle, Mumbai.

This mandal is known for covering Ganpati in 80kgs of gold every year. This year ‘Vaijantimala’, a 14-feet garland made with 2.5kg of gold and 12kg of silver, worth Rs96 lakh is the special attraction on this occassion.

Ganesh Chaturthi, which began on August 29, up until September 9, is celebrated as the birthday of lord Ganesh who is widely worshiped as the God of wisdom, prosperity and good fortune. While the festival is celebrated all over the country, elaborate celebrations are held in the states of Maharashtra, Gujarat,Tamil Nadu, Goa, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Chhattisgarh to name a few.

Large ‘maha laddus’ of 7,500kg and 5,000kg made with dollops of ghee and packed with almonds and cashew nuts have been prepared by two confectionery shops in Rajahmundry, Andhra Pradesh.

Mumbai, home to Bollywood actors and other celebrities has various Ganesh pandals across the city with the most popular being the Lalbaugcha Raja. Situated in Lalbaug market area, the pandal, founded in 1934, is said to attract millions.
