Charulatha is back

The Punjabi girl is back in M’town after a hiatus
Kannada may be her preferred industry where she has done the maximum number of films but Punjabi girl Charulatha has spent some time in Kerala. The few years she spent in the State, more specifically in Kozhikode with her parents, made her fall in love with the beauty, food and warmth of the people here. In fact, she has acted in a Malayalam film in the initial phase of her career opposite Dileep. Another film followed a few years back and she is now back in Malayalam in an untitled film directed by Haridasan.
Describing her role Charulatha says, “I play the female lead, that of a housewife who transforms into a modern girl.”
The shoot is going on in Ottapaalam and she is thrilled about getting to spend time in the state she loves. “I want to focus on Malayalam films as I love the Kerala cuisine and am so totally in love with the beauty of the state.” This time around Charulatha has seen a lot of changes in Mollywood. “The pavada and nadan look is gone, instead it has changed to a more modern outlook. Earlier, showing a bit of midriff was considered over the top but now glamour is a part of the Malayalam industry.”
Charulatha has done glamorous roles in Kannada films but maintains that she would not be comfortable in two piece dresses. Malayalam is an industry she wants to focus on right now and she says, “I want to work with good heroes and a good team.”Though this is just her third film in Malayalam, Charulatha is a seasoned actress in Kannada and Tamil with over 30 films to her credit. She recently acted in a Tamil film Sree Ramanujar based on the life and times of the genius Ramanujan.
Charulatha had to do a lot of homework for the film because it is a period film and she states, “The Tamil accent was different, the costumes and jewellery were different as also the body language. This may not be a commercial film in the strict sense but I wanted to do something different and have been experimenting with roles.”On a parting note she says it is only the language and artistes that are different but the talent and professionalism are the same across the industries.
