Sandra bags a Bollywood biggie

She terms the flick as a ‘quintessential Emraan Hashmi movie’

Chennai: VJ-turned-actress Sandra Amy, who has been getting rave reviews for her lead role in the soap, Malli, is all set to make her debut in B’town opposite Emraan Hashmi. The offer came as a surprise for the actress who has been awaiting the release of her heroine-oriented Tamil flick, Sivappu Enakku Pidikkum, for more than a year. The petite beauty says that director Anthony D’Souza approached her after he happened to see her pictures. An elated Sandra, who was incredulous at first when she got the call, says, “I have around 15 scenes in the movie and was asked to reduce five kgs for the role. I play a Tamil girl and the romantic interest of Emraan Hashmi. Sameera Reddy will essay the female lead. I will join the crew next month. I’m really excited about foraying into Bollywood. My command of Hindi would be an added advantage.”
Though Sandra is awaiting more details, she terms the flick as a ‘quintessential Emraan Hashmi movie’, leaving scope for another query. Flashing a smile, she adds, “Like almost all his movies, this one too has a smooching scene. I have a lip-lock scene with him at a crucial point in the movie. I’m sure I can pull it off. As an actor, I’m supposed to do what the script demands of me.”
The actress, who is also a professional dancer, however, is clear that she wouldn’t want to bid adieu to what she has been doing till date. Would glam roles tarnish her ‘homely girl’ tag on television? The actress retorts that she has never had an ‘image’ problem. “Right from my very first serial, I made sure that I wasn’t typecast. My roles in the serials, Roja Koottam and Krishna Laddu Thinna Aasaiya, weren’t serious either. In fact, I prefer character roles in soaps as they offer more scope for performance. Also, I believe that the life span of a character actor is more than that of an actress who dons lead roles,” she says.
