Mangaluru: Roy Castelino resigns as chairman of Konkani Museum Foundation

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru

Mangaluru, Feb 23: Entrepreneur and Konkani activist Roy Castelino on Friday February 23 resigned from the post of the chairman of Konkani Museum Foundation sponsored by the Mandd Sobhann, premier Konkani institution of coastal Karnataka due to certain 'unexpected developments'.

In his resignation letter submitted to the president of Mandd Sobhann Louis Pinto he stated, "That I have been very active in the formation and progression of Mandd Sobhann since its inception is a known fact. All the present buildings housing the Mandd Sobhann-sponsored Kalangann, and the Mandd Sobhann office are on the land belonging to me and my late esteemed father. You are well aware of the fact that though I am not the member of Mandd Sobhann, I have been very enthusiastic in supporting the cause of Mandd Sobhann since its very beginning, financially or otherwise. We all expected and foresaw the continuous growth of Konkani language, literature and culture under the guiding spirit of Mandd Sobhann.

"On many occasions of challenges and compulsions we tried hard and succeeded to stand above personal differences and worked for the success of our objectives even at the cost of personal hardships and losses.

"I am grateful to the organization for having selected me as the chairman of the Konkani Museum Foundation. I leading a team of well-wishers tried and succeeded in getting a budgetary allocation of Rs 2.5 crore and further Rs 2.5 crore was assured by the state government. We failed in actualizing the grants for the reasons well known to you (Louis Pinto) and to the public. Certain unexpected developments of the recent times, well known to you and to the public unfortunately compel me to keep away, respectfully, from the activities of the Konkani Museum Foundation. And therefore with this present I submit my resignation for the post of chairmanship of Konkani Museum Foundation," the letter stated.

"This was not an easy decision to make, on my part. The past years of working with you have been very rewarding, observing how our organizational operations have expanded. I wish you and the organization all the best. Hope the Konkani Museum becomes a reality at its earliest," Castelino added.

    Dear Roy Baab,

Your contribution to Konkani will be remembered. Thank you for all your hard work and dedication. I hope many others associated with Mandd Sobhann will understand the hidden agenda of a few who often take the front seats for name, fame and money. A few of us had distanced during the porob days itself. Its only now majority of us have been made aware that the land belongs to you and your family. My respects to you Sir..! I am sure you will find many other ways to help & support the needy, poor and our rich culture. All the very best. May God bless you.

I am not against nor favoring resignation.
If your influence and power can make the things straight, then your contribution stands on the rock. Put the wrong things out.
Do not make your contribution to waste.

I just felt, I may be wrong.

    Dear Roy Baab,

You must have given enough time and proper thought process to arrive at this resignation point, we may not know all facts and issues, we are with you whatever you decide.

I personally know you and your family since your childhood, you have done lots of sacrifices and hard work to promote Konkani.

Please avoid people around who have been negative in their thoughts and communications. We pray that god will provide you good health and like minded people around you to promote and lead any activity that you undertake and support.

We are with you today, tomorrow or any given day as long as we live.

    Vivat Jesus.

Long Back I want to say this One. But due to some genuine reason I not commented anywhere. But now I am telling famous Konkani saying " Undrak Lonkdacho Vyar Nahi" !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

Apart from this by reading above news, I came to know something. Two decades back, I was aware that the land belongs to Kalangan was donated by one of the Castelino family. But today only I surprised by reading above news that, actually this land is belongs to Roy Castelino family. I salute you Sir, Roy Castelino.

Dear Shriman Roy Castelino, your message of resignation from the Chairmanship of Konkany Museum Foundation is a task that is not easy to accept. Your leadership so far in so many active involvements pertaining to the Konkany society has been noted with keen admiration and respect. You are one of the handful of capable and dedicated Leaders of our Konkany heritage in Mangalore. You have given your "best of the best" to our vibrant community, and we all remain grateful to you and your esteemed family for all your sacrifices and efforts that have helped our Konkany society to move from strength to strength.

Just pause for a minute, and visualize in your mind what you and your family have given to our Community. Also, just imagine how the Community can continue to grow with your continued participation so that many others can learn from your leadership and friendship for some more years and share that gift of virtues for few more years to come.

Just give some more time to consider, and perhaps you might gain some more new thoughts by standing together with many others and continue your journey towards all that expected of you for the betterment of our Society. Contributions towards Konkany community are hard to come by from stalwarts such as you. Think it over once again, and you might come up with a more positive idea. Thank you.

Knowing Mr Roy Castelino since childhood. But not intimate since past many years due to relocation. I always dumbstruck by Roy's Benevolent Contribution. Be it money, property, labor, leadership, inspiring words. Whenever I heard his speeches I couldn't hide my deep appreciation of his profound thoughts and his capacity to put them forward in appropriate words. Roy's Contribution to Konkani cause beyond words. I too was apprehensive of irresponsible utterances of a perceived leader of Mand Sobhan against our Shepherd whose life been above board. I perceive this could be a trigger. But I am sure, a gentleman to the core, of paramount stature like Roy would cease to contribute to the tree which he has tended. Thank you Roy for your best Contribution to Konkani.

IF recent development are the CAUSES TO RESIGN than this decision must have come out of compulsion and not once own impulsions.

One needs Mr. Roy's critical help more than before by bringing all the parties together for the sake of Chistiandam for unity and to not cause further divisions.

Might be a right decision on your personal level but for the Konkani Museum Foundation, this is not the correct decision because your services, expertise knowledge, guidance is required.

Request to take back your resignation and continue to work as Chairman of Konkani Museum Foundation.

Roy is a man of ethics and therefore, I am not surprised at his resignation. I am wondering whether the institution can hold the ethical ground it was established and stood all this while, anymore? I doubt it. There are scores of other avenues where Roy can contribute his talent for the betterment of Konkani language and his penchant to uphold our Mangalorean culture. I wish you the best Roy. Yes, stay away from Maand Sobhan.

It is indeed sad that a man of principles had to resign from such an esteemed post. The little I know of Mr. Roy, he will not tolerate any nonsense and there must have been a solid reason behind his well thought out letter/press note as it appears here. I'm sure Mr. Roy will continue to contribute in many ways for the development of Konkani language and culture.....
