Gangavathi: Swamiji's 'sleaze' video goes viral, tension prevails at Math

Daijiworld Media Network – Gangavathi (RJP)

Gangavathi, Dec 8: Tension prevailed at Virakta Kalmath in Gangavathi in Koppal district on Thursday, December 7 after a video purportedly showing Kottur Swamiji with a woman in a hotel room was streamed by news channels.

After the news spread in the town, Kottur Swami went to an undisclosed location. He was not available for any communication as he switched off his mobile phone.

Hundreds of devotees rushed to the Kalmath, expressed anger. They said seer should not to return to the Math.

There were arguments for a while between two groups. One group termed the video as a conspiracy against the seer, while another group accused the seer of tarnishing the temple's tradition and image.

Some elders intervened, pacified both the factions and controlled the situation.

Car driver complains

Meanwhile, the seer's car driver Mallayya Swamy has lodged a complaint with the local police claiming that he has threat to his life from the seer.

Mallayya Swamy is believed to have shot the video of the incident and leaked it to the media.

The video was shot at room number 303 at a hotel near SDM College of Medical Sciences and Hospital, Suttur, on the outskirts of Dharwad. It is not known when the video was shot.

In the video, a woman gets up and covers her upper body with a towel after two men enter the room. The video also shows a man, believed to be Kottur Swami, sitting on the bed.

We have had enough published instances of so called servers of God, irrespective of religion, indulging in the worst of carnal activities which even a normal man with a conscience would refrain from doing? Then why the hell do we have to go these hypocritical intermediaries in search of an unknown God? If they themselves believed n feared in the particular God they r protecting they would have never done this, which means they know they r fooling the gullible in the name of God n also collecting large amounts of money to fund their pvt life!!
High time people start thinking rationally n stop encouraging these agents of various Gods!!! Religion has been made by man to divide n rule the gullible n these intermediaries thrive by instilling fear in the masses of unknown Gods!!

I strongly believe all religion allow them to marry and serve to god but one marriage if they desire not multiple wives just to produce kids to grow population to out number over another religion. We all are human and have desire of sex some way or other. Some wants to completely devout to god and refrain from sex. Some marry just to produce kids at the cost of congregations so that % of population matter them to grow. Some like just 2 kids and provide best quality education and life. All these religious leaders should be allowed to get married and serve god. Nothing wrong with it.

Listen to his preachings, if he preaches good which helps to lead our day to day life then take it to your heart and act accordingly. If not, neither take his preaching nor him seriously. You do your job he does his job. God will take everyone's account when time comes.

    Rajesh,

Can a father, a drunkard himself, expect/advise his son against alcoholism ? Certainly not. Well, if the son takes a lesson from a drunkard father and turns a teetotaler, the credit doesn't to to the father but to the son who withstood against all odds of getting drawn towards alcoholism.

Similarly, one can't be doing all that is against the type of profession he chose but be preaching the profession. He is betraying both - his followers and his own self esteem. You are right - nobody is a saint. At the same if all were saints, we would not have required any preachers at all - would we ? For the preachers to exist, they must be a personality the people wish them to be. Else, he better give up, change his uniform and walk off. There is nothing that forbids him from doing it.

My above comment is for similar incidents and not general comments for all situations.

Evil attacks mostly to the good people and specially people who preach Gods word and good deeds. if the preachers are not in prayer they are prone to be attacked through such worldly things. We need to pray for the preachers / priests to protect them from such things, hope you include them in your daily prayers.

Evil do not harm bad people or evil doers coz evil know they all belong to them, hence they allow them to do bad things and help such people to prosper for a long time and we get confused why such a bad man is still prospering. Evil will leave him and allow him to fall when Evil's purpose is accomplished through such man.

Sorry to offend the sensibilities of many people here, but doesn't the swamy have a right to privacy in his personal life? As long as the woman is a consenting adult, what is the crime? What is the public interest in airing the video about the activities within the confines of a hotel room?

I can fully understand that some pervert in hotel premises could have shot the video. But isn't there any sane person in the media channel's editorial team to conclude that this is personal affair of that swamy?

The true culprit here is the guy who shot the video and the TV channels that aired the video.

All I would say is - thy shall cast the first stone who has committed no "S...".

    Rampanna,

Consenting adults (both genders) have a right to privacy (sex life) but, its either by publicly accepting a partner as your spouse or by hiring sex service(prostitution). Any relationship outside these two terms are illegal. However, for a Swamy (or any man/woman who vowed celibacy) to be indulging in sex acts is going against his/her vow therefore its illegal. Well, anything illegal is deed punishable - isn't it ?

There is a solution for such people - they must renounce their priestly life and live like a common man/woman. If one is gracing a position to preach people about Godly matters but on a sly conducting actions he once took oath against, is not a moral conduct. If you know a swamy/priest is involved in such things, would you go to the prayer session conducted by him ? Certainly not. Therefore, they do such things in secrecy and your demand of privacy is not applicable to them.

Please explain if this is not correct and why.

    Jennifer madam,

There are quite a few flaws in your argument.

    - Firstly, who gave you the idea that physical relationship other than with spouse or a prostitute is illegal? Suppose a 30-year-old professor goes out on a college excursion with his students and sleeps with a 20-year-old student on a one-night stand. He might have broken his service rules, but he surely hasn’t committed a crime;

    - Secondly, the vows taken by any swamy has no legal value in an Indian context and hence breaking any such vows is absolutely not an illegal act. Therefore, there is question of punishing him since he has not broken any law.

    - Thirdly, is there any “priestly conduct manual” or similar books that these swamis are contracted to conduct their life? As long the swamy or any other private person conducts himself within the confines of the law, why should I bother with his life? Why should the media bother with his private life?

    - And finally, I do not go behind any swamy even if I know that he has adhered to 100% of his vows. There is no evidence for existence of God and hence any person who claims any special relationship with god (and any person who believes in such a claim) needs psychological assistance and not God.
But somehow religion has become a socially acceptable psychosis globally. And that is a tragedy.

    Ramappa,

The first example you gave about a professor and his student - tell me, if that student was his daughter or sister, would he have done what you said ? No, because its not accepted socially. Is there a law that a man shouldn't be sexually involved with his daughter/sister ? Again, no. Being two willing adults, they can have that relationship - can't they ? If the woman has no problem with it, what can be law do ? However, what binds here is social norms and taboo. And, the taboo has a reason too. A biological child of a father/daughter brother/sister is not medically fit union, legal matters agree with it hence, a marriage is encouraged between unrelated male/female.

Your second para refers. A swamy/priest is a Brahmmachari. If you say he isn't you are terribly mistaken. He is supposed to control his bodily urge and stay chaste if he wants to remain a swamy/priest. If he is not following this norm. he is faking as a swamy/priest and taking advantage of the situation and using women for his pleasure and vice-versa. No society will accept this, people may not want them as religious representative, they better leave the swamy/priest tag and live like common people and enjoy sex than cashing in on both roles.

A priestly-conduct manual is there - its not my problem if you don't know about its existence. Because of its existence Godly people don't involve in petty quarrels like me and you, they are knowledgeable enough to guide/direct us. They have a dignified lifestyle, a very simple and disciplined one.

Lastly, if you don't go behind any swamy, you better retire to your own world than indulging in arguments like this, Lock yourself within four walls and dwell there - don't toss phrase like 'consenting adults having sex' let people live in a way that fits them. Let them hold some personality at high esteem, take them as a role modes or pull the personality down over a valid reason - you don't belong among them

Those religious men and women from every religions/faith have gone to serve God and the Humanity.

Supposedly these leaders of every religion are unable to control their carnal desires:

KINDLY DON'T STAY IN YOUR RELIGIOUS POSITION

    1) AS A PRIEST,
    2) AS A DAWAA PREACHER. OR MULLA
    3) SWAMIJI.

COME OUT AND LEAD ORDINARY LIFE LIKE LAYMEN AND LAYWOMEN.

So that the religion or the faith may not be maligned whoever follows so as to sustain or kept or remain holy. God has given us mind to choose good over the evil and exercise your mind.

Solomon after building the temple asks God to forgive his people and prays to God WHICH MAN HAS SINNETH NOT OH GOD.

    I quote Ecclesiastes 7:20

For there is not a just man upon earth, that doeth good, and sinneth not.

    Unqoute.

ONLY JESUS AS A HUMAN ON THIS EARTH PLANET SINNED NOT.

John 8:46 Which of you convinceth me of sin? And if I say the truth, why do ye not believe me?

    Joseph Guruji,

What is so extra-ordinary about the life of a priest, mulla or a swamy? Each one of them are born just like you and I; and each one of them will die one day just like you and I.

And why are you including a mulla in your list? There are 100’s and 1000’s of mullas who are married and have kids. There is no religious bar on them enjoying their life!! (I do not know the finer details of a mulla’s qualification, so forgive me if I am wrong).

All catholic priests and most hindu swamis do project an image of celibacy in their public life. But as our experience has shown us time and again that very few men have the psychological aptitude to control this basic human primate instinct. That is just how nature has built each one of us. Hence whether it is a catholic priest in Ireland or some hindu swamy in Koppal district, everyone will bow to this nature’s design.

BTW, what is the logic that a priest or a swamy has to be celibate? What is that he could do as a celibate but not as promiscuous person?

    Dear Rampa Udupi,

I quote my own comment: Those religious men and women from every religions/faith have gone to serve God and the Humanity. Unquote.

I HAVE SPECIFIED THOSE RELIGIOUS MEN AND WOMEN FROM EVERY RELIGION / FAITH WHO HAVE GONE TO SERVE GOD AND HUMANITY.

I DID NOT SPECIFY ONE'S MARRIED LIFE.

Of course, your one point is noted:

A Mulla or a Dawa Preacher even after marrying one to four his /her relentless hunger and appetite for sexual desire is not quenched. This is a grievous and blunders acts of life breaking one commandment of God: THOU SHALL NOT COMMIT ADULTERY.

    Ok, Joseph Guruji,

You say that “thou shall not commit adultery”. But where is the question of adultery here? In order to commit adultery, the person should be already be in a committed relationship in the first instance. How is that possible in the case of a catholic priest or a hindu swamy?

More importantly, why is there such a moronic expectation regarding celibacy from priests and swamis? What exactly could a celibate priest/swamy do that a promiscuous priest/swamy cannot do? What is the logic?

@Jennifer, god never said priests cant have sex or eat non veg. Its humans who created that rule.
Your entire argument is flawed since every rules are created by humans which means you have the right to live the way you want.
Centuries or decades or years from now, all these taboos will be a normal thing except incest and if incest is also removed then i dont know... but you cannot rule that out either. Practices like Sati and Caste discrimination have been banned/outdated. Peoplw have moved on. Widow women remarry. That itself had the weight of incest back then. Women have voting powers.
Personally, I do not support or advocate incest but you cant rule out anything because the world is run by humans. Moreover look at the movies these days. Sex scenes even in bollywood. The world is changing. India too . People are getting murdered for cow and religion and free speech.
A swami too is a human being and people forget that and respect them. No human deserves respect because they are human beings and end of the day they have a lot of skeletons in their closets which if exposed, will be disastrous. Everyone has their own skeletons.
Personally i dont think its right in our part to judge that swami. If he has sex with others, good for him. Swamis of the future will drink do drugs have sex etc. If sati was stopped why not this? And people will be foolish enough to "Respect" these god men.
