Mangaluru, Nov 8: The efficacious mega melodious concert of Kevin Misquith was jointly organized by Konkani Cultural Association and South Kanara Association in London on October 22.

After the fruitful occasion both the associations were successful in raising three thousand pounds for the purpose of charity from this event.

This amount was given to Sr Irene Jane in London by the president of SKA Sunil D’Cunha on behalf of both the association on November 7.

Sr Irene Jane was one of the honourable guests in London, who had represented this musical concert on behalf of St Josephs Prashanth Nilaya Nellyadi Mangaluru.

The St Joseph's Prashanth Nivas, formerly known as St Joseph's Asylum, is one such institution started by the Carmelite Fathers in 1882 as a home for the destitute. It was taken over by the Jesuits in 1883. In 1898 the Sisters of Charity of Sts Bartolomea Capitanio and Vincenza Gerosa having newly arrived from Italy, started rendering their service with love and devotion to the inmates of this institution, the neediest from infant to the helpless aged, irrespective of caste, creed or community. In 1968, the management of the asylum was handed over by the Jesuits to the diocese and in 1982, the diocese handed it over to the Sisters of Charity who run the institution under its present name.

The institution has been an abode of peace for the destitute, aged, mentally challenged and differently abled. Currently there are over 400 inmates who are taken care of at this institution. Besides, this institution also operates a Kannada medium primary school for the poor at its Jeppu premises.

Most of the inmates are admitted here on the recommendation of parish priests, community leaders and even the police department. There are various activities conducted for the residents throughout the day. Their physical, spiritual and health needs are taken care of. Annual picnics are organized for recreation. Retreats are also conducted once a year.

Sr Irene Jane thanked Sunil D’Cunha and Santosh Pinto (President of KCAUK) for taking the initiative for this noble cause. She assured of her prayers in a special way for members of all the associations for their generous contribution.

Hearty congratulations to you dear Santhosh and Sunil Presidents of SKA & KCA-UK and the members of both the Associations for organizing in such a meticulous way every detail of this wonderful 'Kevin Misquith Live in Concert'. Indeed it was magnificent! Words are inadequate to express our gratitude for all that you have done with a thought of bringing in a 'ray of hope' and being a 'source of joy' to the less privileged of our society, who are lovingly cared for by our sisters at Nellyady. On your part a 'pure thought of generosity' and that had entailed a lot of hidden and hard work solely for the 'differently able ladies' of our institution at Nellyady will always be cherished with a note of gratitude in the hearts of all of us. May the Lord visit you with His copious Blessings and accompany you to be 'an inspiration' to many to brighten the lives of those who need a touch of love. God bless you.
