Puttur, Nov 6: The police, on Sunday November 5, arrested an accused relating to complaint of raping a minor girl near Mottethadka in the taluk.

The arrested man identified as Giridhar (24) from Daddimanjanakatte, Yedapadavu, Mangaluru was taken into custody by the police from his home. He was produced in the court upon which he was remanded to two weeks of judicial custody.

A complaint of rape had been registered against Giridhar in the town police station on September 19 this year under Protection of Children against Sexual Offences Act relating to an incident which allegedly had happened four months earlier. The complainant had accused the youth of raping her when he was on a visit to a relatives home to participate in a programme. The accused had gone underground thereafter, and the police were unable to trace him.

The operation was led by police inspector of town police station, Mahesh Prasad.
