Udupi, Aug 30: Ganesh Chaturthi festivities are in full swing in various parts of the coastal region, or rather, the country. The festive spirit is in the air as thousands come together to partake in Ganeshotsava processions and seek divine blessings from Lord Ganesh. Over the past few days, Ganeshotsava celebrations have been held in various parts of Udupi district, under the aegies of different organisations.

Temples, homes and public places are adorned with exquisite Ganesh idols, carved and sculpted with intricate details by the artistic hands of several idol makers. Indeed, one may say it is the meeting point of divinity and art.

Here's a look at how Ganesh Chaturthi is being celebrated across Udupi:

Sarvajanika Ganeshotsava, Bellampalli


Sarvajanika Ganeshotsava samiti hosted Ganesh Chaturthi celebration and the idol of Lord Ganesh was immersed on Saturday August 26. The idol was carried in a grand procession for the immersion. A day-long religious programme such as bhajans, maha pooja, Gana-homa was performed at the place. Hundreds of devotees gathered here to seek the blessings from Vigneshwara.


Sarvajanika Ganeshotsava, Syndicate Bank, Manipal

Celebrating the 40th year, Sarvajanika Ganeshotsava, Syndicate Bank held the festival celebrations with fervour. The idol was installed at the main branch office, Manipal. A variety cultural programme and competitions were held as part of the celebration. A day-long religious ritual was performed at the place.


Sarvajanika Ganeshotsava, Kannarpady, Kinnimulky



Sarvajanika Sri Ganeshotsava Samiti took the initiative to hold Chauthi festival at Kinnimulky. This was the 12th year of Chauthi celebration by the Samiti. The idol has been kept for darshan and will be immersed soon. Devotees are thronging for darshan and are busy in performing religious rituals. As many as 108 coconuts were offered to Ganayaga led by Gururaj Bhat Sagri on August 26.


Sarvajanika Ganeshotsava, Yelur, Malpe


Sarvajanika Sri Ganeshotsava Samiti, Malpe is celebrating the 47th years of Ganeshotsava. On this occasion, Ranga pooja was held on Friday, August 25. Bhajana programme and other religious programmes were held on account of festivities. The Ganesh idol was immersed on Sunday, August 27. Cultural committee of various associations performed Yakshagana dramas. Rangoli, pot breaking competition and musical chair competitions were organized as part of the Ganeshotsava.


Sarvajanika Ganeshotsava, Youth sports and cultural club, Ambalpady




The Sarvajanika Ganeshotsava committee Ambalpady organized the 40th festival successfully. The programme was held in association with youth sports and cultural club, Ambalpady at Lal Bahaddur Shashtri ground, Ambalpady. They idol was installed on Friday August 25. Ganesh Pratishta mahotsav and Ganahoma performed as part of the Ganesh chaturthi. The pooja will commence on Thursday, August 31. After the pooja, the cultural programme like dance programme, orchestra and devotional singing competition will be held every night.

Rajya sabha member Oscar Fernandes visited the temple on the occasion.


Sarvajanika Ganeshotsava, Perampally



The Sarvajanika Samiti, Perampally organized the 9th Ganesh Chathurthi celebrations. The beautiful idol was installed on Friday August 25 and was immersed on Saturday August 26. Hundreds of locals and committee members participated in the pooja rituals and sought blessings from Lord Ganesh.


Sarvajanika Ganeshotsava, Garadimajal, Kodavoor



Sarvajanika Sri Ganeshotsava Samiti of Kodavoor is in its 49th year of celebration. A beautiful idol of lord Ganesh was installed by the Samiti at Kodavoor. Ganahoma and maha pooja were conducted on this occasion. Locals participated in the religious ceremony in large numbers. The idol was immersed in the sea the same day.


Sarvajanika Bala Ganapa, Kalmady



The Kalmady Ganeshotsav samiti Kalmady held the fourth year of Ganeshotsav. The idol was installed on Friday, August 25. Religious and cultural programmes were held during the day. Hundreds of devotees offered pooja and flowers to Lord Ganesh. The ‘Bala Ganesh’ was the centre of attraction for the locals. Hundreds joined to see beautifully carved Ganesh.


Sarvajanika Ganeshotsava, Heroor




The Sarvajanika Ganeshotsava Samiti Heroor celebrated the 24th years of festival. The beautiful idol of Ganesh was installed at the temple premises, Heruru. Religious rituals started from the day one and it was held till August 27. As usual the committee kept the idol for three days.

 
Sarvajanika Ganeshotsava, Parkala



This year, Parkala Ganeshotsava samiti celebrates the golden jubilee. To mark the day, the Samiti installed Ganapati idol and celebrated Ganesh Chaturthi with religious fervour. To commemorate the golden jubilee year, the committee distributed Pradhan Manthri Bhima Yojana to beneficiaries for free under the Grama Suraksha scheme. This is a new initiative taken by the Parkala Ganeshotsav committee. A huge golden pandal was designed on the occasion.


Sri Pattabhi Ramachandra Devasthana, Barkur

Ganeshotsava Samiti Barkur celebrated the golden jubilee on the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi. The idol of Ganesh was installed at Barkur Sri Pattabhi Ramachandra temple. The idol will be dissolved after six day of prayers and devotions. Cultural programmes such as bhajan sandhya, Shehanai, religious pravachana and Dasavani will be conducted.


Brahmavar Sarvajanika Ganeshotsava Samiti

The Samiti held the 35th year of Ganesh Chaturthi. The celebrations began on August 25 and will culminate on August 31. Variety cultural programmes will be held during nights. Every day, a maha pooja is offered to Lord Ganesh. On August 31, the idol of Ganesh will be carried out in a procession for immersion at the Mahalingeshwar temple lake. A colourful display of fireworks, tiger-dance, and fancy-dress competitions will be held at Gandhi Maidan before winding up the programme.
