Karnataka to set up Digital Nerve Centre at Kolar with Tatas

Bengaluru, Aug 5: In a path-breaking initiative, Karnataka government will set up a State of the Art Digital Nerve Centre (DiNC) at Kolar in collaboration with Tata Trusts and Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) on the lines of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi.

The digital nerve centre (DiNC) in Kolar on the lines of health transformation project of AIIMS, Delhi will be set up as per an Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by the State Government with the Tata Trusts and Tata Consultancy Services.

Kolar has been identified as a district where the digital nerve centre would be set up working with the State Department of Health and Family Welfare.

The State Government has agreed to provide the physical infrastructure and manpower to deliver services.

The targeted outcomes of the project included bringing 100 per cent citizens in Kolar under the ambit of DiNC ecosystem; ensure that 95% of patients in Kolar are able to avail the schemes under UHC; creation of unique health identity card for all patients; increase utilisation of primary healthcare centres by 50%; reduce patient movement to district hospitals by 25% and progressive digitization of patient medical data by cent per cent.

Tata Trusts through its corporate social responsibility grant would support the procurement of the digital infrastructure required to set up the centre.

TCS would provide the software, platform, services and further manage the overall technology implementation, training and change management, Health and Family Welfare Minister K R Ramesh Kumar said.

R Venkataramanan, Managing Trustee, Tata Trusts, said "Our partnership with the Government of Karnataka is a progressive move towards addressing growing concerns of inaccessible and unaffordable healthcare which affects rural livelihoods and overall community development. The implementation of DiNC is a step towards transforming public health digitally that will empower people to seek healthcare at low costs and complement the existing government schemes”.

Karnataka Government is pioneering the implementation of Universal Health Coverage program (covers 1.4 crore households).

The Digital Nerve Centre through its inherent capabilities would from thereon manage their overall care co-ordination and further facilitate the Universal Health Coverage program on behalf of the Government of Karnataka.

In this regard, Kolar has been identified as a district where a Digital Nerve Centre would be set up working with the Department of Health & Family Welfare – Government of Karnataka.

The MOU in this regards has been finalized between Government of Karnataka, Tata Trust and Tata Consultancy Services.

As part of this model project, an in campus transformation would be carried out across all health centres in Kolar district which would subsequently be connected to the Digital Nerve Centre.

In order to facilitate the same the Government of Karnataka has agreed to provide the required physical infrastructure and manpower to deliver the transformation.

Tata Trust through its CSR grant would support the procurement of the digital infrastructure required to set up the DiNC and Tata Consultancy Services would provide the software, platform, services and further manage the overall technology implementation, training and change management.
