Mangaluru, Jul 25: A press meet was held at Wenlock Hospital on Tuesday, July 25, to make known the ongoing progress of its development works.

Speaking on the hospital's upgradation, MLA J R Lobo said, "Rs 10 crores has been sanctioned for the development works of the government Wenlock Hospital. The process of upgradation started in 2015, and the hospital will see its completion, and be a well equipped regional hospital by the end of 2017. Besides Dakshina Kannada and Udupi, patients here come from Uttara Kannada, Shivamogga, Hassan, Coorg, and Chikkamagaluru for treatment. We have requested the state government to upgrade the building with new facilities. On knowing the importance of the upgradation, the government allotted the specific amount for its development. The first stage of the building, the ground floor, is complete. Work for the remaining three floors is underway.”

“We are focusing on the progress of the hospital's upgradation. We have already planned to overcome staff shortage. We have fixed an underground drainage line at the Out Patient Department (OPD) and the administrative departments. With the help of Karnataka Bank, the hospital has been equipped with a new dialysis centre. Renovation of the Physiotherapy Department with latest equipments has been sponsored by the Rotary Club. The Multi-Drug Resistant TB department and Sick Newborn Care Unit have also been renovated. A new X-ray block has been started at the OPD. A new mortuary was constructed and renovation work done for the treatment training centre," he added.

He further said, "As the building has a heritage status, we requested the government to preserve it. Before the Rs 10 crore fund was sanctioned by the government through budget allotment, Rs 5 crore was given by the government for the new building. So a plan was set for the construction of the new building that contained 200 beds. A committee was formed for all developmental works that included the dean of KMC Mangaluru, health departments' engineering wing, MESCOM administrative engineer, commissioner of the corporation, and the smart city architect,”

"The AYUSH department had requested a space in Wenlock Hospital, to have a 50 bed capacity hospital of its own. We thus allotted them an empty area available opposite the logistics department of the hospital. A cost of Rs 7.5 crore is estimated for this project. Once the AYUSH hospital is started, it will be the first hospital of its kind in India. The upgradation work of Government Lady Goschen Hospital is also under progress. As per the upgradation, the number of beds will be increased from 272 to 500. The inauguration will be held in the first week of November." he concluded.

Under Mr. J.R. Lobo's leadership we can expect many more projects for pubic benefit. A man of word as usual. One in a Million.
Wenlock hospita was over crowded and public was reluctant to visit there I believe. Upgradaation of Wenlock Hospital is of great benefit for common man and those who cannot afford private treatment.

    Dear MLA Sir

When you will upgrade this hospital to a Govt medical college. Why only Mangalorean students are suffering because of this. All other districts have minor hospitals converted to Medical college. Mangalore and Udipi are two districts are deprived of this .We have such a good infrastructure next to Bangalore ,the govt should surely do this whatever may be the private lobby
