Gujarat textbook calls Jesus 'devil', Cong dubs it 'shame to India'

Itanagar, Jun 14 (PTI): The blunder in a Gujarat government school text book referring to Jesus Christ as 'haivaan' (devil) has brought shame to India, Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee president Takam Sanjoy said on Wednesday.

This was particularly shameful as Gujarat was the land of Mahatma Gandhi, Sardar Ballav Bhai Patel and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Sanjoy told PTI.

He called for immediate remedial steps to assuage the hurt sentiment of Indians, particularly the Christian community.

The class IX Hindi language textbook published by the Gujarat State School Textbook Board has used 'haivaan' (devil) before Jesus Christ, instead of the intended word 'bhagwan' (God) in one of its chapters, which triggered protests from Christians.

The board has removed the controversial word in the online version of the book available on its website.

Sanjoy also lauded Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh Governor P B Acharya for writing to his Gujarat counterpart Om Prakash Kohli about this issue.

This is blasphemy. No one has advanced such a horrible notion in the past and such statements are hate mongering.
Having said that, I must add that there are no angels or devils, only humans and they belong to one or the other category. There is one God, called by different names, and that is the reason we are in this world. Christian religion, of course, considers Jesus as a God and one of the Holy Trinity, but refuse to accept other religions who may believe in incarnation (avatar) of God, such as Krishna or Rama. Therein lies the seeds of dissent because they are made to believe that all others are "false" gods.

You started your comments like a doctor but towards the end you became a retarded patient. Can you try arguing that in the place where you are enjoying now?. First get your facts right, The divine mistry of Holy Trinity and incarnation are two different issues, so don't just mix up and give the same colour. Looks like here you are desparate to find some issue for dissent. Are you trying to create trouble among communities in Canada?????.

“Therein lies the seeds of dissent because they are made to believe that all others are "false" gods.”
    Sir,
There is only one God as God is almighty and He is unseen. Religion is all about understanding that that and there is sharp and irreconcilable differences in understanding God between each religion.
As for Christianity is concerned we are told not to judge and condemn anybody ( Luke 6:37)and are encouraged to pray to God to reveal his son Jesus Christ to the entire humanity and grant them good things in life, peace and eternal life.

There is a pattern over the past 3 years. Subtle attempts made to prick and irritate the minorities and then make statements claiming that these are unintended errors. A dangerous game is being played without thinking about the harm it can cause to unity and peace in the country. None of these people and their organizations were involved in the freedom struggle as then they were busy cosying with the colonial masters. Now through the back door they want to sabotage education and other institutions of the state and create division within society. The aim is to create a theocratic fascist state.

For it is believed that we have one God, called by different names by different religions, worshiped differently by different people of different faith.
We may not be called Romans, neither do we want it. We are Indians 01st, Christians living in India. Just like any other religion has it's right we have it too. Just like leaders call it a democratic Country, so be it. We should have equal rights to practice and preach our religion in our own country. Others have no right to call our God a Devil. If this report is right, this book should immediately be called off and necessary corrections done.
No one has right to criticize our God, that too in such a manner. Let our Leaders know to respect each n every religion at par with each other.
Where was all this Hindu Nation, Hindutva, Hinduism few years ago. We all lived like one community, we did not care that our friends were Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs or Jains, or Catholics, but we were friends.
It is a shame on our nation if this is true and not being rectified immediately.
Just imagine if any Country in Europe dubbed any Hindu God as Devil in their text books, what would Hindus feel? Would you keep quiet? Similarly it hurts our sentiments.

Your comments are appropriate and fully justifiable. But I want to remind you that in the old days (I am talking about 40 to 50 years ago), Christian churches branded Hindu gods as demons, and they haven't changed their tune, especially when endeavouring to convert people to their faith. What would you call such propaganda?

If the concerned authority cannot publish good things about other religion then don't publish bad things knowingly. This is my humble request and that too against any Prophets / God. We can take the example of Abu Dhabi Sheikdom - they have renamed one of their Mosque as Mariam, Jesus 'Mother'. The name has been changed to "affirm the humanitarian values in religion, tolerance and co-existence of civilizations and common denominations between religions".

I am a Christian and I die for my religion. However, this news did not make any impact on me. Reason, I know the darkness is always scared of light. Jesus is light and life of the world. Devil may call Jesus by any name. However, it will never cause any harm to one and only holy lord. When the entire world is bending knees in front of our mighty lord, what difference does it makes if a bunch of lunatics call Him devil ? When Jesus set free a man possessed by devil, people accused Jesus of doing it with the help of Belzebub. I really feel pity for the people who try to steal cup of water from mighty ocean with foolish idea to empty it. Come on my Christian friends, rejoice, for we know the time of reward is close at hand. Stand firm in your faith and pray.

If this report is true, then It's really not surprising that Jesus has been referred to as 'devil' in Gujarat Text books. The Rajasthan text books are no better and so are some of the controversial books on Women and Expectant Mothers. We have yet to see several more such writings.

All this is only done to divert the people's mind from the real issues and these crazy unnecessary words will now be debated by all the channels and there is NIL time for constructive business.

Today it does seem that there are no good people left in India except the ruling party and their numbered chamchas. The opposition is already a big ZERO.

But you can fool some of the people some of the time, BUT Not all the people all the time.

Instead of 'God' they printed 'Devil'... They can tell now that it was by mistake. Ok... but, before the writing goes to bulk printing, is there no process of cross checking the contents or proof reading of the contents? Who approved the final copy for press?

There was nothing wrong in Akhilesh Yadav's statement (during last UP assembly election campaign) - "Gujarat ke Gadhe (donkeys)" & in response, FEKU acknowledged Akhilesh statement in his rally saying "Haaan Mithrooooon, hum Gujarat ke Gadhe hai, iss liye raat dinn Gadhon jaise kaam karte hein"!
