Udupi: Minister Pramod Madhwaraj launches two new JNNURM buses

Udupi, Jun 1: Two new buses under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) were flagged off at Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) bus stand near Udupi service bus stand, by district in-charge minister Pramod Madhwaraj on Wednesday, May 31.

The minister cut the ribbon to inaugurate the service and waved the green flag. The new buses will leave from Pethri at 3 pm, Kokkarne at 4 pm, Honnaala at 4:30 pm, Bengre at 5 pm and Udupi bus stand at 5:30 pm every day.

Speaking on the occasion, Madhwaraj said, "These buses are to provide service to people, especially students and senior citizens. This serice will be of help where private bus facility is unavailable. Permission was granted for 55 buses under the NURM transport, out of which 39 have been launched now. We need around 20 more buses. Soon, all 55 buses will be launched and will start functioning."









When queried about the work on the full-fledged KSRTC bus stand in Udupi which is delayed for over four years now, Madhwaraj said, "The KSRTC bus stand in Bannanje is planned to be constructed at a cost of Rs 30 crore. A proposal has been sent for permission. A new NURM bus stand in Udupi is also concocted to be built at a cost of Rs 4 crore near old DDPI office. Buses travelling between Udupi and Shivamogga have been given permits in Udupi itself."

In addition, new buses have been launched in Kemmanu-Hoode, Cherkadi, Honnaala and Kokkarne bus stands respectively.

Block Congress Committee president Chandrika Shetty, Congress leaders Keshav Kotian, Janardan Bhandarkar, KSRTC officials among others were present.

    Good work By Mr Pramod Madhwaraj .

    In Mangalore city also , need to introduce more of these government buses , to solve the problem of private buses .
    I have seen some KSRTC buses in mangalore city and they are excellent
