Udupi, May 22: A couple got married here as per Buddhist rituals on Sunday, May 21. It is reported that this is the first such wedding held in the city.

The wedding took place at Ambedkar Bhavan here.

Ravindra and Kushala are the newly wedded couple.

Udupi and Dakshina Kannada Buddhist Mahasabha had organized the wedding.

Ravindra works for KSRTC in Kundapur and Kushala works for a cashew factory. They fell in love with each other one and half years back.

They took the blessings and permission from their families to spend the life together and decided to get married.

Both are active in Dalit movement. Ravindra is active in Dalit Kala Mandali of Udupi.

Ravindra embraced Buddhism in 2012. Kushala was introduced to the religion recently.

Buddhist religious person Gauthami Mathaji form Mysuru delivered the homily.

Ancient rituals were followed during the ceremony. Pali language was used in prayers and chants.

Buddhist Mahasabha issued the certificate to the couple.

Both vegetarian and non-vegetarian foods were served for the guests.

Totally agree with shivaprasad on Buddhism, 25 centuries ago Siddharta Gootama as he is called in pali researched on how to overcome suffering and investigated it in detail. No one so far has done so much research on mind and gone to the subtlest level than buddha.

His message is simple overcome the mind and its designs ........you will discover empty space of tranquility not tampered by duality/image/religious dogmas/rituals. That empty space he called nirvana
    I love buddha/Yeshua/Allah/Parabrahman

Glad to see this. May god bless the couple.
Since there is no caste system is Budhism, I believe, word "Dalit" should not be used here.
When a 'Dalit" changes the faith, Budhism in this case, what will happen to all the government benefits (reservation in education, jobs, hostel benefits, scholarships, etc)? Can some one please answer?

When a dalit Hindu changes his religion to Buddhism, Jainism or Sikhism, he will continue to get all privileges associated with a Hindu dalit. However, if such a dalit embraces Christianity or Islam, all privileges are taken away.

Few are using Buddhism as a bridge for conversion of Hindus to their religion. Need to be careful.
