Udupi, May 8: A mini bus that was returning with people who had attended a marriage ceremony suddenly went out of the control of its driver before falling by its side on Sunday May 7 afternoon. The incident happened near Gundupade in Pilarukana on Shirva-Belman main road.

In this tragic accident, a youth died while some others in the bus suffered serious injuries. The deceased has been identified as Sunil Moolya (22), son of Sadashiva and Jayanthi Moolya couple from Badagu Panimaru in the taluk.

.

Sunil was the only son of Sadashiva and Jayanthi couple. Sadashiva has hotel business in Hubballi. Sunil had completed his diploma in Hubballi. Sometime back, he had returned to native place and started working in a mobile phone service shop in the city by staying with the family of his grandfather. His parents live at Hubballi.

The ill-fated mini bus was bringing back people who attended a marriage function held in a hall at Belman. It is learnt that due to rash and negligent driving of the driver, the bus which was headed for Shankarpura, lost its balance and tumbled to the ground. Passengers who got stuck under the weight of bus were rescued and taken to KMC Hospital, Manipal. Although it is being said that seven to eight passengers suffered serious injuries, the actual figure is not known.

As per information the injuries suffered by Jyoti (48) aunt of the deceased Sunil, Jyoti's son, Prasanna (22), Shobha (38), Praveen (40), and Santosh are of more serious nature. Six persons escaped with minor injuries. All the injured are being treated at Manipal hospital.

The spot of the accident is located between two sharp road bends. It is said that a couple moving in a motor bike had stopped by the roadside as their child wanted to relieve himself. At the sight of the fast-moving bus approaching them, the couple jumped into roadside drain to save themselves, and sustained minor injuries.

Very sad incident... May the departed soul rest in peace. Heartfelt sympathy to the victims... Accidents are just happening within moments, no time to think. But some of the accidents could be avoided if we follow some precautions and avoiding rash driving etc. There are many young and inexperienced drivers busy on mobile phones and careless on driving. I have several experience, even we apply horn on curvy roads, the party entering in opposite is least bothered to reply. Belman - pilar road stretch has lot of curves and so that the road is suitable for limited speed only but some of the mini buses, tempos carrying the passengers of attending parties always have over speed. The habit of talking over mobile phones while driving has invariably the reason for such accidents, at the last minute they able to notice the overcoming vehicle and loose the control, and within seconds accident takes place.

Bus lost control because the driver did not know that the bus is under his control and that he should drive carefully. Drivers in India are so rash that it looks like they are out there on the road just to kill people and they think it is their right to drive anyway they like . All Service Buses and for that matter Trucks are so dangerously driven that our Mangalore needs awakening like Swachh Bharat type . Any drivers violating traffic signal should be punished heavily. For the third violation, the drivers should be forced to undergo one day training at their cost. RTO should have facility for training for such drivers. Repeat offenders/violators should lose license. On the highways, the heavy vehicles drive on the fast track, which should be actually for light vehicles. They never yield to others. Our drivers have no awareness of safe driving rules or deliberately ignore them.

Very Sad incident ! May soul of Sunil RIP.
In Twin District ( DK) public transport ( bus) drivers drive very rashly. From Mangalore to Udupi express buses are the worst! No one follows the speed limit, and there is no check on them,

Young drivers like to show off in presence of young. Take older drivers in such case.
