Pakistan's Supreme Court on Thursday prohibited at least 24 companies from selling mineral water across the country.

A three-member bench, which was constituted under Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar, began the hearing of the provision of clean water case today, reported the Express Tribune.

The water provided is clean and safe for drinking and that the court can summon the Pakistan Standards and Quality Control Authority (PCSQA) report if and when required, claimed the counsel for the defendant mineral water company.

The CJP also put forth his argument and said, "Companies should have the consciousness to provide clean water, we have to care for the people and the children."

Furthermore, according to reports, the CJP also remarked that outcomes of the hearing will remain independent of the hiring of a prominent lawyer.

The case has been adjourned for an indefinite period.

According to the reports, earlier Punjab Food Authority (PFA) banned popular mineral water brands that failed to meet the standard and quality set by PFA.

These brands included big names like Aquafina, Kinley, and Springley.
