While thousands of OnePlus fans thronged the venue (OnePlus had sold tickets for Rs 999), to get the first glimpse of the smartphone in person, the smartphone had already been unveiled during a global launch event streamed on YouTube on 20 June. Since the global launch has already taken place, nothing about the phone is unknown. The only piece of the puzzle remaining was the cost.

The India launch, beginning at 2 PM IST, lasted about 65 minutes and featured Kyle Kiang, ‎Global Head of Marketing at OnePlus , Szymon Kopec, Product Manager, OnePlus, Sanjay Mehta, Global Vice President, Qualcomm, Brian Yoon, Design Director, and Arun Srinivasan, Director Consumer Electronics, Amazon India. Over the course of the launch OnePlus did its best to tout the many features of the smartphone, with an especial emphasis on the phone's dual-cameras.

There was also the finale of the OnePlus smartphone competition, in which Soumya from Bhuvaneshwar answered two questions correctly and went home Rs 1 crore richer, along with a brand new OnePlus5 smartphone, of course.
