Megastar Amitabh Bachchan has responded to the Supreme Court ruling on allowing the Income Tax department to reopen a 2001 tax case against him.

According to earlier reports, the I-T department says the actor owes Rs. 1.66 crore in taxes for his show Kaun Banega Crorepati for the year 2001-2002, reported the NDTV. Refuting the reports, an official statement released by Bachchan's Chartered Accountants and Legal Advisory team:

Point 1: The said mentioned case has no relation to KBC (Kaun Banega Crorepati) whatsoever in any matter or context

Point 2: The said mentioned case has not been reopened.

Point 3: The Supreme Court has given the respondent, i.e. 'Mr Amitabh Bachchan', the right to appeal against the re-assessment order.

In July 2012, the Bombay High Court had granted relief to Bachchan. It had dismissed an appeal filed by the IT Commissioner after he reopened the actor's tax filings for 2001-2002. The Income Tax department had moved the Supreme Court against the High Court order.
