RSS sacks Goa chief for making comments against ruling BJP government

The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) today sacked its Goa chief, Subhash Velingkar. According to media reports, Velingkar was sacked for making several comments against the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) state government.

According to an NDTV report, RSS leader Manmohan Vaidya said Velingkar has been sacked from his post with immediate effect for faulting a political outfit and working against the Goa government.

On 29 August, Velingkar had said that the BJP may not win the next state election. He had alleged that the BJP had "betrayed" the electorate's trust by going back on its promises.

Speculations are rife that Velingkar was sacked because BJP president Amit Shah was show black flags during his Goa visit.

Last week, Shah was shown black flags by members of Bharatiya Bhasha Suraksha Manch (BBSM), an outfit led by Velingkar, when he was on his way to address a meeting of BJP workers.

BBSM is also believed to float a political party to contest the Goa Legislative Assembly elections next year and field candidates in 35 of the 40 seats.
