Jharkhand: Mine collapses in Lalmatia; at least 7 dead, over 40 feared trapped
At least seven people have been killed and more than 40 people are suspected to be trapped under the debris as a mine collapsed in Lalmatia in Jharkand on Thursday.
Jharkhand Chief Minister Raghubar Das has announced Rs 2 lakh compensation for the deceased and Rs 25000 for the injured.
The mine collapsed around 8:30 pm, on 29 December. A heap of mud caved in at the entry point of the Latmatia mines of Eastern Coalfields Limited (ECL) in Godda district, police said.

Several vehicles were also trapped.
"Taking stock of situation and rescue efforts are underway. An enquiry has been initiated into the matter,"Power and coal minister Piyush Goyal said.
A team of National Disaster Response Force has been sent from Patna to the the mine collapse site in Lalmatia, Jharkhand.
Four workers have been rescued and admitted in a hospital at Mahagama in Godda. The condition of one of the workers is reportedly serious.
Jharkhand Chief Minister Raghubar Das is closely monitoring the situation, and has asked concerned officials to intensify rescue operations.
Coal India has been requested for a mining rescue station team with specialized equipment.

Additional personnel from Eastern Coalfields Limited's Sheetalpur headquarters have also been rushed to the spot.
The Central Industrial Security Force sentry on duty is safe. While the rescue operation is underway, electricity supply has been disrupted.
