India's foreign minister, Sushma Swaraj, on 25 March said that the Trump administration has informed India of it's target of deporting more than 270 Indian nationals living in the United States illegally for deportation.

Swaraj in the upper house, on Thursday, said that the government has asked for the 271-name list from the United States before allowing their deportation.

According to a report in Washington Post, Swaraj said, "Until we verify the nationalities of these people, how do we believe the claims in the list?"

"We have asked the U.S. government for more information and told them that we will give an emergency certificate for their deportation only after establishing their Indian nationalities."

However, there was no comment from the Trump administration on the purported deportation list, reported Washington Post.

The number of unauthorized immigrants in the United States born in India increased by about 130,000 between 2009 to 2014 to an estimated 500,000 people, according to a September report from the Pew Research Center in Washington, reported a leading daily.

According to media reports, an estimated 12,885 Indian citizens overstayed their visas in 2015.

The Trump administration has stepped up its move to fulfill the President's campaign promises on immigration.

The Trump administration is reportedly considering wide-range of new policies which will allow authorities to detain and deport illegal immigrants, reported Washington Post.
