Delhi : 19-year-old hangs herself, stalker apprehended

On 11 May, a 19-year-old girl committed suicide at her Vasant Kunj residence. Police reports have revealed that her act was prompted by a case of alleged harassment by a local youth.

The girl used to lived with her parents and sister in Kishangarh locality. The incident took place yesterday, following which a police team rushed to the spot. No suicide note was recovered.

During investigations, the girl's sister told the police that a youth named Neeraj was stalking her sister for the last few days. On Wednesday evening, the youth met and assaulted her, during which her mobile phone broke, the police said.

The girl then went to the beauty parlour where both she and her sister worked, picked up the house keys and went home. Later, when her sister and their mother, who works as a guard at a shopping mall, reached home, they found the 19-year-old hanging in her room.

"A case under Sections 306 (abetment of suicide), 323 (causing hurt) and 354D (stalking) of IPC was registered at Vasant Kunj (North) Police Station and the accused, Neeraj, has been arrested," a senior police official said.
