The first same-sex couple of Australia married only for 48 days before death separated them

Australia legalised same-sex marriage on December 9, 2017, and week after first First Gay Marriage took place on December 15, 2017. However, on Wednesday one of the  partners Jill Kindt revealed that it ended in heartbreak just after 48 days.

The couple  Jo Grant and Jill Kindt who hailed from Queensland state in Australia dated for eight years before they tied a knot on Dec 15. 

The marriage solemnised in the garden of their home, a week after the nation became the 26th country that allows same-sex marriage. This wedding had a heartful end with the death of one of the partners dying out of terminally ill. On Wednesday after getting permission from the family, Queensland state parliament released the details.

 

The couple had avoided a 30-day waiting period and were granted exceptional circumstances to become Australia's first married same-sex.

Queensland Attorney-General, Yvette D'Ath told parliament, "Jo and Jill were approved, married, and registered all in one day after the registrar ruled exceptional circumstances," 

Jo's mum Sandra believes the marriage renewed Jo's spirit, keeping her alive long enough to have one last Christmas with her family.

The family revealed that Grant passed away on  January 30 due to a rare form of cancer.
