In pics: Disabled youth sets himself on fire outside Raman Singh's house

A young man attempted self-immolation outside Chief Minister Raman Singh\'s residence in Raipur, Chhattisgarh, on Thursday, 21 July. The incident occurred at around 12.35 pm during the Mukhyamantri Jandarshan Karyakram, a programme for people to take their issues directly to the Chief Minister.

The young man, who suffers from disabilities, poured kerosene over his body and then set himself on fire, sending the CM\'s security staff into a tizzy. The fire was eventually doused by the security personnel present at the programme. He was admitted to the city\'s Ambedkar Hospital with serious burn injuries.

The youth, identified as Yogesh Kumar Sahu, a resident of Birgaon in Raipur district, was reportedly under depression due to unemployment, and wanted to meet the Chief Minister. However, he decided to take the drastic step before his turn to seek redressal came.

Patrika photojournalist Vijay Devangan clicked these disturbing photographs. According to him, Yogesh was waiting for his turn to enter the CM\'s residence when he saw a rickshaw with a kerosene tank. He rushed to the rickshaw and poured the fuel onto his body.

Devangan says none of the security staff noticed Yogesh during this time. They came to his rescue only when he was already in flames.
