The Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles will be opened with Lipstick Under My Burkha

The makers of Lipstick Under My Burkha may have received a setback in India after Censor Board for Film Certification refused to give it a certificate last month. The entire film industry backed director Alankrita Shrivastava on her fight against the board. Although the film has been creating news in India for wrong reasons, it has managed to impress the festival audience, organisers and juries too.

Recently the film won an award at Glasgow Film Festival and now it has been chosen to be screened at The Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles (IFFLA). The festival official announced today its galas and 2017 lineup of narrative and documentary features, and short films for its 15th annual festival. The festival will be held from April 5-9, 2017 at Regal L.A. LIVE: A Barco Innovation Center in Los Angeles, California.

IFFLA will open with the film, which has the likes of Konkona Sen Sharma, Ratna Pathak, Aahana Kumra and Plabita Borthakur in the cast. The festival closes with Shubhashish Bhutiani’s debut feature, Hotel Salvation (Mukti Bhavan),  starring Adil Hussain, which is making Los Angeles premiere.

The festival will also showcase some interesting short films and documentaries including Karishma Dube’s Devi, starring Priyanka Bose, Miles of Sand featuring Tannishtha Chatterjee. Apart from this Konkana Sen Sharma’s Death in the Gunj starring Gulshan Devaiah, Kalki Koechlin, Om Puri, Ananya Kasaravalli‘s The Chronicles Of Hari and many others.
