Bollywood is essentially a star driven industry wherein the lead actors take away the credit for success of a film and the director seldom gets much credit for the box office results.

While we often analyse the success ratio of a star, there are a few Bollywood directors who have not gone wrong till date. All the films made by them have won over the audiences which eventually resulted into a commercial success.

Here’s a look at directors who have not delivered a single flop till date:

Rajkumar Hirani:

Hirani is easily the most successful film director of India. He made a Hindi film debut in 2003 with Munnabhai MBBS and ever since then there has been no looking back. His track record kept on improving with every passing film and the box-office records were rewritten on his arrival. An interesting point to note here is the fact that 3 out of the 4 films directed by Hirani are Blockbusters. When most directors strive hard to make one universally loved film, Hirani has managed to attain the feat every time he was behind the camera.

  • Munnabhai MBBS: Hit
  • Lage Raho Munnabhai: Blockbuster
  • 3 Idiots: All Time Blockbuster
  • PK: All Time Blockbuster

Karan Johar:

Johar made a Hindi film debut in 1998 with Kuch Kuch Hota Hai which was a massive blockbuster. He followed that up with another blockbuster in the form of Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham. The journey post K3G has been a bit bumpy as the director failed to deliver another Blockbuster, however all his film have been fairly successful.

  • Kuch Kuch Hota Hai: All Time Blockbuster
  • Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham: Blockbuster
  • Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna: Average
  • My Name Is Khan: Hit
  • Student of The Year: Average
  • Ae Dil Hai Mushkil: Hit
Karan Johar

Neeraj Pandey:

Pandey introduced a new wave of cinema in India. Seldom had we seen realistic thrillers succeeding at the ticket window; however the Pandey perfectly blended commerce with realism which ended up being a formula for success. The actor started off his career with A Wednesday which proved to be a surprise hit and followed it up with Special 26 which again did the trick with the audiences.

  • A Wednesday: Hit
  • Special 26: Average
  • Baby: Average
  • MS Dhoni: Hit
Neeraj Pandey

Ali Abbas Zafar:

This name is rather surprising as Zarfar’s first two films; Mere Brother Ki Dulhan and Gunday were not received well by the critics. However, the Box-Office verdict of both his films were diametrically opposite of the critical response. While the two films were hits, the director hit the ball out of the park by delivering his first ever Blockbuster in the form of Sultan.

  • Mere Brother Ki Dulhan: Hit
  • Gunday: Hit
  • Sultan: Blockbuster

Rakesh Roshan:

Rakesh Roshan as a director had his own share of flops in the 90’s and 80’s. However he finds a place in this list merely for the consistency he has shown. Roshan has directed 7 films since 1995 and from them, 4 have emerged as blockbusters whereas merely one film failed to be a successful venture.

  • Karan Arjun: Blockbuster
  • Koyla: Average
  • Kaho Na Pyaar Hai: Blockbuster
  • Karobaar: Disaster
  • Koi Mil Gaya: Super Hit
  • Krrish: Blockbuster
  • Krrish 3: Blockbuster
Rakesh Roshan

There have been many other successful directors in the film industry who have delivered successful films time and again.

Aditya Chopra nearly made it to the list; however his last release, Befikre was a major flop which ended his success streak as a director. Kabir Khan too has been associated with several successful films however the failure of Phantom curtailed his chances to make it to the list.

Farhan Akhtar also has a fairly successful filmography as a director. Out of the four films that he has directed, only Lakshya was not a profitable venture. Same is the case with Shoojit Sircar who has made just one unsuccessful film in the form of Yahaan in his career.
