It's R D Burman's birthday today, and giving tribute to the legendary singer, Google celebrates his 77th birthday with a musical Doodle. Fondly known as 'Pancham da', Burman was an iconic music composer and a cut-out singer of his name.
The doodle shows a smiling R D burman with animated scenes from the movie industry in the background that is superimposed with musical notes.
R D Burman, born in Kolkata in 1939, was the son of S D Burman who was a noted Indian music director. At the age of 9 he started composing music for his father's hit films after his father included his son's song, Sar jo tera chakraaye, in the film Pyaasa.
From then on started his evergreen jounrey of music. He was known for his unconventional ways of making music out of anything. He mixed genres from electronic pop to arabic and from jazz to cabaret in his musical compositions. He even used day-to-day objects like bamboo and glass bottles to create his music.
R D Burman was married to the famous singer, Asha Bhosle. Together they recorded many hit numbers and even performed live.
