“Reincarnation has been attempted in Karan Arjun, Om Shanti Om, Madhumati” – Dinesh Vijan on accusation of Raabta being a remake of Magadheera : Bollywood News

Last 10 odd days have been exasperating for producer turned director Dinesh Vijan. While he has been gearing up for the release of his lavish debut affair Raabta, there have also been accusations surrounding him around the romantic musical drama being the remake of SS Rajamouli's Superhit Telugu film Magadheera. The comparisons came in when the promos indicated that the film is a reincarnation affair where two lovers got separated in their previous birth, only to be reunited in the current times though not without bloodshed taking place in both the eras.

While the premise seemed interesting enough, especially with Sushant Singh Rajput and Kriti Sanon demonstrating cracking chemistry and Jim Sarbh (of Neerja fame) making his presence felt as well, further hype was well matched with music doing the trick too.

However in the midst of all Dinesh is wondering whether the accusation has any solid premise after all.

"That's because the whole thing is absurd. Why on earth would I copy such a popular film and put it out there to be compared by everyone? It makes no sense at all," wonders the man who has made films as diverse as Love Aaj Kal, Finding Fanny, Cocktail, Go Goa Gone, Agent Vinod and Badlapur amongst others in the past.

As for the reincarnation bit, this is what he has to add, "The genre of reincarnation has been attempted a lot of times successfully in the Indian film industry, be it Karan Arjun, be it Madhumati, be it Om Shanti Om, be it even Magadheera. Raabta is of that genre but our execution, screenplay and plot outline is original."

Considering the fact that SS Rajamouli has broken all records with his recent release Baahubali 2, anything and everything that he had made in the past (including Magadheera) is being looked at with hawk's eye.

"I have always admired Rajamouli's work and by copying his work it would undermine the admiration I have for him," adds Dinesh as a parting statement.

Well, hopefully that would settle everything once for and all. As for the final content that is in the offering, it would be there for everyone to see once the film releases all over next Friday.
