Why Bobby Deol is upset with Imtiaz Ali

Though this Bobby Deol hasn’t been a part of the big screen projects for a while, in a recent interview he made some startling revelations. One amongst the same is that he was supposed to do two of Imtiaz Ali’s most appreciated films, Jab We Met and Highway.

Why Bobby Deol is upset with Imtiaz Ali

Talking about it, Bobby Deol revealed that he was first approached by Imtiaz Ali with the script of Jab We Met, which was then titled Geet. When he appreciated Imtiaz’s work in the film Socha Na Tha (which starred Bobby’s cousin Abhay Deol), he had expressed his desire to work with Ali who had then mentioned about the script of Jab We Met to him. It was apparently Bobby’s idea to approach Kareena Kapoor Khan for the film and he met the producers Ashtavinayak with the script. However, the producers then weren’t ready to sign Imtiaz claiming that he will make an expensive film and also that Kareena didn’t want to meet the filmmaker. So Bobby approached his good friend Preity Zinta who said that she could come on board only after six months.

Then the project was on hold and after few days, Bobby Deol saw the announcement of Jab We Met cast in newspapers which had Kareena Kapoor Khan leading the cast line-up and according to Bobby, she roped in Shahid Kapoor because he was her boyfriend then. The producers were Ashtavinayak to whom Bobby had introduced the script and they had indeed signed up Imtiaz Ali. Bobby further mentioned that he was supposed to do Highway too but that deal didn’t get through either. However, Bobby appreciates Imtiaz’s directorial skills and added that they are still friends but he tells the director if he makes a film with Bobby, it will be his best film.

Bobby Deol also spoke his heart out about the embarrassing DJ episode where many made fun when Bobby was on the console. Apparently a club in Delhi started off an ad campaign claiming that Bobby Deol will turn DJ for their club on a weekend night. On the other hand, the actor stated that he was conned. Reminiscing about the incident, Bobby Deol mentioned that someone approached him to show up at a club. He had no idea about the DJ ad promotions and the actor showed up thinking he will hang around for a while. But his plan backfired. He agreed that DJing is an intricate job and this resulted in people making fun of him. The actor also mentioned that some of his friends still tease him over the incident and sing ‘DJ wale Bobby mere gaana baja do.’

Bobby Deol also accepted that he had turned alcoholic during his depressive phase but he asserts that he is ready for work or rather starving for work. He also wants to remove the perception that a lot of directors and producers have who think that he requires only lead roles since he is a star kid and was a popular actor of the 90s. He also firmly stated that he is ready for any kind of character based roles too where he is given a scope to perform well.
