Talent and perseverance eventually pays off. This could well be true in case of Varanasi boy Vineet Kumar Singh who has been on the Bollywood scene for a decade and a half but is now finding his well-deserved recognition. With Mukkabaaz, he has found his big break as a sole leading man and that too with Anurag Kashyap at the helm of affairs.

Anurag Kashyap gives his Gangs of Wasseypur boy a big leading break in Mukkabaaz

"In the film, he enacts the part of a small town boxer who falls in love with a local girl. Of course all hell breaks loose and while he has his mentor Ravi Kishan supporting his cause, there is villain of the piece - Jimmy Sheirgill - on the other hand who is out there as a spanner in his plans," states an observer.

For Vieet, it has been a one struggle filled journey for sure. Though he was associated with Mahesh Manjrekar in the capacity of an assistant director during his early years in Bollywood, he started doing bit roles in the interim period. However, once he came in touch with Anurag Kashyap, things started looking up a little.

"Roles were still small but then he started getting noticed at least," says a close associate, "Films like Gangs of Wasseypur, Bombay Talkies and Ugly ensured that his graph was moving up. His roles started getting meatier and it was a matter of time before he bagged a major leading role."

Yet again, it was Anurag Kashyap who felt that Vineet had it in him to carry a film on his shoulders. For starters, Vineet was required to muscle up his body and get into a perfect shape for the part of a boxer. Bearded look came alongside that as well, though body language and diction was not much of an issue due to his UP roots.

"In Mukkabaaz, Vineet is in fact almost unrecognizable," says a member of the film's crew, "He surprised us all. Anurag and he worked quite closely to get the characterization and the personality complement each other. What you see on the screen is total transformation that Vineet has gone through."

No wonder, even though the theatrical promo of the film (which has Aanand L. Rai and Eros coming together to back it up) is yet to be out, just the song promo of 'Paintra' has done the trick.

"In a way, it introduces Vineet and other characters in the film," the associate adds, "The idea was to warm up to the audience to Vineet and overall ambience of the film. As is the saying, yeh toh abhi trailer tha, picture abhi baaki hai."

Well, we look forward to that.
