It seems that director Imtiaz Ali can’t get over his love for Japan ever since he shot Tamasha in the country. The director-producer has now decided to join hands with a Japanese production company for an international collaboration titled Love In Tokyo.
Imtiaz Ali takes romance to Japan with Indo-Japanese film Love In TokyoYes, the title has been borrowed from the 1966 Joy Mukerji, Asha Parekh starrer Bollywood romance drama but the filmmaker is quick to add that the forthcoming film bears no resemblance to the 60s classic in terms of plot or story. Imtiaz Ali will be collaborating with the Japanese conglomerate Shochiku under his banner Window Seat Films. The said film will be directed by Imtiaz’s brother Arif Ali. Also, the director mentioned that the title rights for the film were bought by Shochiku since they loved it.
Talking about the same, Imtiaz maintained that ever since the inception he was sure that he did not want to direct the film and soon the makers zeroed in on Arif. Appreciating the creative mind that Arif has, Imtiaz can’t wait to start this film with his brother who made his debut in Bollywood with Lekar Hum Deewana Dil.
On the other hand, revealing details Imtiaz Ali also mentioned that the film will have a blend of Indian and Japanese artists including the actors. While it will be extensively shot in Japan, it will go on floors in the second half of this year.
Elaborating on how he came up the idea, Imtiaz mentioned that he had met the CEO of Shochiku quite a bit of times where they ended up talking about similarity in Asian cultures and despite the language difference, the kind of similar emotions we go through and the kind of similar values we follow. After the simple discussion, they decided that it would be a good idea to bring together these two Asian cultures that are similar yet different in a way through a film.
As of now, the film is in its initial stages and the cast is yet to be finalized.
