Youth held for stealing Rs 16,500 from home

A 25-year-old was arrested by the Dongri police of south Mumbai for stealing Rs 16,500 from his house.

A 25-year-old was arrested by the Dongri police of south Mumbai for stealing Rs 16,500 from his house.

On Thursday, the accused Shams Sarfaraz Husain Razani’s mother had lodged the police complaint regarding the theft. Nazia Razani, (45) a teacher, stated that someone had broken into her house and stolen the money from the cupboard. She also said that her son had been missing since the day of the theft.

The police had registered a case against unknown persons but during the investigation, they grew suspicious of Shams as he had been missing since the incident. They received a tip off that Shams was going to meet a friend at Simla hotel of Charnak area in Dongri on Sunday the afternoon. Police officials, including officials in civil clothes, laid a trap for him and nabbed him. The accused confessed to having stolen the money on being interrogated. The police is, however, yet to recover the stolen amount.

Sources from the police claimed that even though they are trying to trace the stolen money, Sham’s motive behind stealing from his house is not clear yet. He was produced in court and has been remanded to police custody till March 22.
