A youth was arrested for rash driving and injuring four people near a footpath in Goregaon (west) on Sunday night.

A youth was arrested for rash driving and injuring four people near a footpath in Goregaon (west) on Sunday night. The accused, Ankit Khemka, a resident of Malad, was later released on bail by the Bangur Nagar police as it was a bailable offence. The victims were hospitalised for treatment of abrasions and contusions and on Monday afternoon, discharged, said the police.

According to police officials, Khemka was driving a Santro car and was accompanied by his sister and a female friend when the incident occurred around 10.30 pm near Infiniti-II mall on Malad Link Road. Officials confirmed that at the time of the incident, Khemka was driving under the influence of alcohol.

Khemka’s Santro was seized by the police following the incident. The car will be examined by the RTO to find out the exact reason for the crash, the police confirmed.

Police officials said that Khemka was travelling from Mith Chowky and instead of taking a left turn, took a right turn, and continued driving on a road that was a one-way. In the bargain, he rammed into two motorcycles and one auto-rickshaw, angering several passers-by who surrounded his car. At this point, he panicked and tried to take the car ahead in all directions, losing control. Passers-by soon brought his car to a halt and smashed its windowpanes. They then dragged him to Bangur Nagar police station.
