A 30-year-old woman on Wednesday allegedly committed suicide after hanging her two minor daughters to death from a ceiling fan in Koparkhairane on Tuesday night. The police is investigating the reasons behind her actions.

The incident came to light on Wednesday morning when a neighbour spotted the body of Jagrut Wavia hanging from a fan in her home at around 7 am. The neighbour then informed the police, Jagrut’s husband Hiraji and other family members. Later, the police found the bodies of Jagrut’s five-year-old daughter Druvia and one-and-a-half-year-old daughter Vanshika hanging from another ceiling fan.

Hiraji, who is a businessman, was not at home when the incidents took place. Jagrut’s family has revealed that she was suffering from depression. Hiraji told the Koparkhairane police that she had asked him not to go to Gujarat for election work, a request he did not heed.

According to Hiraji, Jagrut could have possibly faced some kind of problem and, due to the ensuing anger she had experienced, she took her own life.

Though a police official said that they are still trying to figure out why she took such an extreme step, Hiraji suspects that the reason behind her suicide could be his Gujarat trip.

The police recovered a suicide note in which Jagrut claimed responsibility for the extreme step. “However, the exact reason is not mentioned in the note,” a police official said. The bodies have been sent to a government hospital for a post-mortem, he added.
